What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANNING - Plans Expediter position at Horry County, (SC)?
Under the supervision of the Chief Plan Reviewer, the Plans Expediter will be responsible for clerical tasks associated with the department’s rapidly paced and complex residential and commercial land development approval and permitting process.
- Receives and distributes land development plan / plat submittals for review to all county reviewing departments.
- Transmits, tracks, and files plan / plat review comments and correspondence associated with the county’s land development permitting process for all county reviewing departments.
- Coordinates with county staff, engineering firms, surveyors, developers, and contractors for permitted land development projects.
- Maintains organized electronic and paper files for land development projects.
- Duties include answering calls and emails from customers and design professionals.
- Performs related duties as may be required.
- Qualified candidates shall possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to: an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science and three (3) years in general office/clerical experience; or high school diploma and five (5) years of clerical/general office experience; or any equivalent combination of training, experience, knowledge and abilities in areas of engineering technology, geography, planning or related field along with considerable experience in engineering plan review and / or customer service.
- Applicants must have a high level of interpersonal skills because of frequent interactions with individuals that have varied priorities and demands such as county staff, developers, engineers/design professionals, site development contractors, locally elected representatives and other regulatory agency personnel.
- Must have the ability to adequately handle multiple projects simultaneously and must possess a high level of organizational skills that permit the easy and efficient retrieval of assigned files or projects with limited notice.
- Must have the ability to meet critical project deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.
- Must be a team player and be capable of maintaining a can-do attitude in the face of many competing demands.
- Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Excel, etc). Further skills and experience that are desired include familiarity with land development, zoning, and stormwater permitting regulations.
- Experience with reading construction plans, prior use of GIS (mapping) software and database software (MS Access) are also desired.
- Candidates must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
