Job Background
PLC and Controls Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting conveyors, AGVs, vertical lifting units, pallet carries in an automated system and mechanical components used on these systems. They will also participate in the coordination, assembly, modification, installation, and repairs of mechanical assembly machines, recommend ideas related to productivity improvement and cost reduction. The ideal candidate possesses not only the ability to program and troubleshoot PLC/HMI controls systems, such as Allen Bradley PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Graphics Panels, related drawing markups (schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.), also a wide range of electrical and control issues. Provide support in material specification, schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up; recommend ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support all types of automated storage and shipping activity including conveyors controls.
- Troubleshooting conveyor equipment, automated supply carriers and AGVs
- Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance and IT departments.
- Work with complex PLC programs and electrical control systems.
- Allen Bradley PLC and VFD programming
- Ability to read and understand Electrical Schematics
- Design industrial electrical power circuits/distribution (480VAC, 24VDC equipment)
- Understanding Electrical/Electrical devices and how to troubleshoot
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Minimum 3-5 years of related automation experience with HMI, PLC’s, VFDs and general control system design.
- Proven attitude regarding personal safety, the safety of co-workers and the public
- 3-5 years’ experience with complex automation control systems.
- High level of experience with Rockwell PLC platforms.
- Experience with network and automation communication protocols including wireless platforms.
- Attention to detail with a high regard for functional excellence
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems and Office programs including Access, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with multiple disciplines
- Must be able to read and understand construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC experience a plus
