Our Mission: To inspire a brighter future for students most in need by providing opportunities to experience high-quality academics, engaging enrichment activities, and healthy life skills.
The Horizons Approach: Horizons St. Louis in Kirkwood serves students K-8 who are eligible to attend Kirkwood Schools. These students come from families with financial need and have experienced learning loss in literacy, math, or both. Horizons’ students attend a 6-week summer program on the campus of a Kirkwood school and receive additional support throughout the year. In small classes led by professional teachers and qualified leaders, students dive into a rich curriculum with a focus on STEAM and literacy. Swimming lessons are provided to every student. These and other confidence-boosting activities break down barriers to success and expose children to new opportunities. Year-round connections between Horizons staff and students and families continue during the school year.
Salary: $4650
Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Skilled in running activities for students’ grades Kindergarten-5th
Experience working successfully with fellow educators on a classroom team is a plus
Characteristics: The Youth Activity Leader is a fun role that provides in class support to both the Lead and Assistant instructor. They must be a professional, caring individual with the ability to implement strategies to engage students in active learning.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead daily indoor/outdoor recreation activities.
- Assist the Lead and Assistant Instructor with students during STEAM, SEL, and enrichment activities.
- Maintain attendance, provide evaluative feedback, academic performance records, time records, and other data as required.
- Attend and monitor field trips.
Participate in indoor and outdoor activities, swim block program and other duties as required. Prep and serve meals and snacks for students.
Mandatory Events
o Horizons Program Monday, June 8th-Friday, July 17th
o Attend training and orientation sessions prior to the start of the program
o Participate in the following:
- June 4th full day 9:00a - 3:30p
- June 5th half day 9:00a - 12:00p
- Attend Family Night (Show-off Night)
Participate in After Program Debrief/Materials Pack-Up/Site Clean-Up Attend three Year-Round Family Events

Experience:
- Elementary Classroom: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
