Job Title: Day Porter — Commercial Building

Position Overview

The Day Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment in a commercial office/retail building during daytime hours. This role focuses on visible, front-of-house cleaning and upkeep, quick response to tenant and visitor needs, and excellent customer service to support building operations and tenant satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain appearance of lobbies, corridors, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, break rooms and other common areas:
• • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, spot-clean carpets and upholstery, and clean glass/surfaces.
  • Empty and replace liners in trash/recycling receptacles; transport waste to designated disposal areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms (soap, paper products, towels).
  • Wipe down and sanitize high-touch points (handrails, door handles, elevator buttons).
• Monitor and replenish building supplies (paper products, hand soap, cleaning supplies) and submit supply requests when inventory is low.
• Report larger maintenance issues to facilities/engineering.
• Respond promptly and courteously to tenant and visitor requests and complaints; escalate unresolved issues to supervisor.
• Conduct scheduled walkthroughs and log building condition, incidents, or safety hazards; complete shift reports.
• Maintain cleaning equipment (vacuum, floor machine) and report equipment malfunctions.
• Follow safety procedures, use proper PPE, and adhere to building access and security protocols.
• Assist with special cleaning projects and event setup/cleanup as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous janitorial, custodial, or day porter experience in commercial buildings preferred.
• Strong customer-service skills; professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to work independently with reliable time-management skills.
• Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing, bending, climbing stairs) for shift duration.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures; ability to follow MSDS guidelines.
• Availability to work daytime hours; some flexibility for occasional early mornings, late shifts, or weekends as required.

Certifications (preferred but not required)

• OSHA 10 or similar safety training
• Bloodborne Pathogens training
• CPR/First Aid

Working Conditions & Schedule

• Typical schedule: daytime shift (e.g., 8:00 AM–3:30 PM or 9:00 AM–4:30 PM), Monday–Friday.
• Indoor/Outdoor environment with regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and dust.
• On-call or overtime may be required during events, emergencies, or special projects.

Performance Measures

• Cleanliness and appearance of assigned areas as measured by inspections and tenant feedback.
• Timely completion of assigned tasks and accurate shift reporting.
• Responsiveness to tenant/visitor requests and escalation of maintenance issues.
