Organization Overview

Horizons at Dedham Country Day is a community-centered education program serving 135 students from the Greater Boston area. Horizons builds long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning and build academic skills. The main component of Horizons is a six-week summer program at Dedham Country Day, where students participate in academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities. The six-week program is supplemented by a school-year program, where students participate in after-school tutoring, and community-building events. 


Horizons at DCD operates a proven model and, while operating as an independent chapter, is part of an affiliated network with over 70 Horizons sites serving students across the country.

Position Summary 

Horizons at DCD is seeking a Bilingual Assistant Director of Programs and Advancement. Because approximately 40% of our students speak Spanish at home, being bilingual in Spanish and English is an important skill in this role. We value strong relationships with our families, and the ability to communicate in their native language helps ensure every family feels welcomed, informed, and supported. This role will also assist with translating materials and communications for our Spanish-speaking families. 


Working closely with the Executive Director, this role ensures high-quality programming for students of all grade levels, while also helping to sustain the organization’s growth through fundraising and communications support. The Bilingual Assistant Director of Programs and Advancement will support in the management of the summer and year-round educational programming, while also contributing to grant writing, development activities, and marketing. 


This is an excellent growth opportunity for an individual with strong program management skills, an interest in nonprofit development, and a passion for closing the achievement gap for students in Greater Boston. With mentorship from the Executive Director, the Assistant Director will have opportunities to grow into a leadership role within the organization.


This is a salaried position averaging 28-36 hours per week, with some seasonal variation based on program needs. We recognize that flexibility is important, so we’d like to discuss a schedule and workload that prioritizes the needs of the program while ultimately ensuring it’s a good fit on both sides. The role is hybrid with the ability to work one day remotely per week during the academic-year and fully in-person during the 6 week summer program. 


Key Responsibilities & Duties


Program Management and Administration

  • Support student recruitment, re-enrollment, and retention activities related to both summer and academic year programming 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, students, and school partners
  • Plan and lead quarterly family engagement activities, re-enrollment sessions, and recruitment workshops, interacting with school principals, teachers, and guidance counselors as necessary 
  • During the summer program:
  • Supervising Volunteers and enrichment instructors
  • Support curriculum planning and daily program operations
  • Coordinate enrichment programming, field trips, and community-building activities
  • Collect and report student outcomes and program data in alignment with Horizons National and Boston Beyond Partnerships


Development & Fundraising

  • Conduct prospect research and support grant writing and reporting
  • Assist with donor events, including planning, logistics, and follow-up
  • Support fundraising functions by tracking RSVP and sponsorships, drafting thank-you letters, and coordinating program elements
  • Attend fundraising events (occasional evenings and weekends required) 


Marketing & Communications 

  • Capture photos and stories at events for marketing purposes
  • Create content for newsletters, slideshows, and social media
  • Support the development of the annual Impact Report and other publications


Additional Administrative Support 

  • Provide general support to the Executive Director as needed
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth operations across all functions 


Qualifications

Required

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in an organization with a focus on education, youth development, or nonprofit program management
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across diverse communities
  • Passionate commitment to ensuring success for all students and closing the achievement and opportunity gaps 
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and student success
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive within a small team environment and work collaboratively or independently as needed, with high degrees of personal initiative and accountability


Preferred

  • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, or nonprofit development
  • Familiarity with Raisers Edge 
  • Experience managing social media and marketing efforts
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors or similar entity 
  • Supervisory experience providing feedback and guidance to ensure team alignment with organizational goals and mission


Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $40,000-$68,000, commensurate with experience and weekly schedule (28-36 hours/week). Horizons at Dedham Country Day offers a competitive benefits package.
