Patient Financial Services Manager (Hybrid)

Reports to: Executive Director of Revenue Management
Status: Full-Time, Exempt,
Location- Hybrid- standard business hours with availability for scheduled team
About the Role
The Patient Financial Services Manager oversees all aspects of patient financial collections and the billing-to-collections cycle. This role is responsible for managing patient deductibles, co-insurance, and balances, while ensuring timely and compliant collection practices. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of insurance processes, including reading and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), payer guidelines (commercial, Tricare, and others), and when accounts should or should not be escalated to collections. In addition, this individual will be a leader in staff training, mentoring, and fostering a culture of accountability and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of patient financial collections and billing cycle.
- Manage collection of patient deductibles, co-insurance, and outstanding balances.
- Determine when accounts should be worked internally versus escalated to collections agencies.
- Review and interpret insurance EOBs across all payer types, including commercial and Tricare.
- Train staff in “Insurance 101,” including how to read EOBs, address challenging patient questions, and manage payer-related claim issues.
- Collaborate with revenue cycle, compliance, and clinical teams to resolve billing concerns.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Monitor collection performance and implement strategies to meet or exceed financial targets.

Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with clinical and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient billing experiences.
- Communicate effectively with patients to resolve financial concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Serve as the primary liaison between payers, patients, and third-party collection agencies.
- Facilitate ongoing staff training and support team members in handling complex claims.

Required Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in medical billing cycle management with strong, proven collections experience.
- High school Diploma or GED
- Strong understanding of insurance processes, EOBs, and payer policies (commercial, Tricare, BCBS Paid to subscriber).
- Proven ability to manage staff and provide effective training.
- Knowledge of billing cycles, collections procedures, and compliance regulations.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with billing systems, EHRs, and office software.

- Experience working in a multi-payer healthcare environment.
- Previous experience with compliance audits and payer contract management.
- Proven experience in managing and building new teams in a healthcare or revenue cycle environment.
