Overview
We are looking for a skilled Lathe Machinist to set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathe machines to produce high-quality, precision parts. The ideal candidate can interpret blueprints, select proper tooling, and maintain a safe, efficient production flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate manual or CNC lathes to perform turning, facing, boring, threading, and grooving operations.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering instructions to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Tooling Selection: Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments.
- Quality Control: Measure workpieces using precision tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify conformance to specifications.
- Production Monitoring: Monitor machine performance, adjusting feed rates and speeds to optimize production.
- Maintenance: Perform routine machine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn tools.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing protective equipment and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating CNC machinery such as CNC milling machines or CNC lathes with Fanuc controls.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages (G-code), CAM programming software, and SolidWorks or CAD for design interpretation.
- Skilled in reading blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T specifications, and mechanical schematics.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude with basic math skills for precise measurements and calculations.
- Experience with tooling setup, calibration of precision measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers, and using coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Ability to work safely with power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, forklifts, and other manufacturing machinery.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.
- Valid certification or training in machining practices is preferred; a proactive attitude towards continuous learning is highly valued.
