The Crisis Counselor/Specialist main purpose is to provide crisis intervention within the community for all age groups. This position shall intervene to alleviate the participants immediate social, emotional or environmental crisis and assess, evaluate, triage and refer the participant for appropriate follow-up treatment to support a return to an effective lifestyle.
- Crisis Counselor Level:
- Master’s degree or Doctorate in psychology or behavioral health/medical related field plus one (1) year experience in Behavioral Health.
- Meet eligibility for AZBBHE licensure.
- Experience or knowledge of best practices therapeutic approaches
- Crisis Specialist Level:
- Minimum of High School Diploma/GED with four (4) years of behavioral health experience OR bachelor’s degree in behavioral health related field. Experience equivalency is considered if combined education & experience meets qualifications as Behavioral Health Technician (BHT).
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
- Possess a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record including but not limited to no serious traffic violations (ie. Reckless Driving; at fault accident; felony speeding/20 mph or over) or greater than 2 traffic violations in prior 39 months and reliable transportation.
- Appropriate referrals and placements within the treatment continuum
- Demonstrate ability to provide counseling/case management to SMI participants in the Mental Health program.
- Demonstrates knowledge of special populations such as substance abuse
- Demonstrates ability to develop treatment plan and summary based on participants needs.
- Demonstrates ability to distinguish between alcohol and other drug-related symptoms and other pre-existing physical problems or pathologic behaviors.
- Demonstrates ability to understand the biopsychosocial influences and effects of dependencies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of how the acute and chronic nature of the dependence and the ways medical, emotional, behavioral, social, educational, and other interventions are used to treat the participant.
- Demonstrated knowledge of referral resources, available to participants
- Able to effectively employ analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be certified in First Aid and CPR, agency will provide training if necessary.
- Must obtain and maintain a level one fingerprint clearance card through Arizona Department of Public Safety with successful completion of background check.
- Possess the physical, mental, and cognitive ability to perform specific clinical and/or tasks required by the position without posing a direct threat to the safety and security of patients.
- Must complete notary exam and apply to obtain notary certification to support the involuntary treatment and petition process.
- Exercise high level of collaboration and teamship with team members, Agency leadership and staff, and community members and stakeholders, to most effectively utilize resources and accomplish objectives.
- Ensure interactions with all staff and community members are positive, courteous, respectful, and professional.
- Maintain calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during difficult interactions.
- Resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure, without escalation.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with diverse staff and clients, in a non-offensive manner.
- Willingness to accept feedback, address behavior constructively, and commit to a high standard of professionalism.
- Long periods of sitting, ability to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to operate phone, Fax, copier, and a computer.
- Able to operate Agency vehicle.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish
- Counselor Level: Qualified assessor.
- Trained in crisis intervention and offered services to agency participants and residents in the community.
- Experience working in Integrated Healthcare, Behavioral Health or Primary Care environment.
- Apply to obtain clearance with the Pinal County Sheriff’s office to ensure access to the Correctional Facilities.
