The Children’s Counselor provides developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed therapeutic services to children and adolescents, while actively engaging families in the treatment process. This role supports clients from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and addresses a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, including risk assessments, to evaluate the emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children and adolescents
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based, age-appropriate therapeutic interventions
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy with a strong emphasis on child-centered and family-informed care
- Diagnose mental health conditions in accordance with DSM criteria and monitor client progress toward treatment goals
- Collaborate with caregivers, schools, and other service providers to ensure coordinated and holistic care
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal standards
- Utilize culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices in all aspects of care
Qualifications Required
- Master degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family, Psychology, Social Work, or directly related field
- Must meet eligibility for AZBBHE licensure.
- Experience or knowledge of best practices therapeutic approaches.
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
- If driving while on agency time or on agency business, a valid drivers license with appropriate liability insurance and approval for liability coverage with HHWs liability insurance carrier is required.
- Family therapy knowledge/experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to type and working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping.
- Must obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card and pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Have a Tuberculosis screening test and provide evidence of freedom from infectious tuberculosis prior to providing services and additional TB testing or screening questionnaires will be performed annually.
- CPR/First Aid Certification, training will be provided if the candidate does not possess active certification.
- Possess the physical, mental, and cognitive ability to perform specific clinical and/or tasks required by the position without posing a direct threat to the safety and security of patients.

Qualifications Preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience working in Integrated Healthcare, Behavioral Health or Primary Care environment
- Advanced knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity
- Certified or licensed as Independent Practitioner by State of Arizona
