$5000 Hiring Bonus for NEW Crisis Receiving Center Night Shift LPN's, active as of 04/21/2026, $5000 Total, paid in three (3) installments; $2000 upon receipt of the following: Background clearances, including fingerprint background check, Acceptable drug screen results, Satisfactory references; $1500 upon satisfactory completion of the six (6) month probationary period; $1500 upon completion of twelve (12) months of continuous employment, with a satisfactory performance evaluation. This hiring bonus is applicable to new hires only, or otherwise, individuals not having been employed for a minimum of 1 year from the date application is received

Position Summary

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) working in the Horizon Behavioral Health Crisis Receiving and Stabilization Center are responsible for management of the overall medical care of assigned individuals at the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. LPNs are responsible for providing nursing care to crisis stabilization, detox, and clients in need of medical clearance. This includes the service delivery of medication administration and diagnostic procedures along with delivery of client/family education, consultation with physicians, and carrying out of provider's orders.

Required Education and Experience

Education Requirements

  • The successful completion of a course of study that allows for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of VA is required.

Types of Experience

  • One year of experience providing nursing services as an LPN is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preference may be given to candidates with prior experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to physical health and intellectual disabilities.
  • Knowledge of nursing best practices.
  • Administer medications.
  • Analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques.
  • Perform medical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans and referrals.
  • Produce, read, and relay medical lab results.
  • Commitment to serving the ID/DD population.
  • Ability to respond quickly to correct situations deemed to be hazardous, especially to consumers.
  • Ability to record data and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to lift and transfer consumers up to an average of 50 to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills: verbally, person-to-person and through use of the telephone, and written
  • Able to train staff to implement training programs for the individuals
  • Safely assist individuals with all aspects of physical management including equipment use, safe lifting and physical assistance.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
  • Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
