About the Role
Are you an experienced, detail-oriented payroll specialist interested in working for an organization that grows the communities it serves? The Compensation and Payroll Specialist is critical to ensuring Horizon employees receive timely and accurate paychecks. In this role, you'd oversee multi-state bi-weekly payroll processing for approximately 900 Advisors using payroll software. The Compensation and Payroll Specialist also serves as the technical expert for the HRIS system, and assists the Compensation & Payroll Officer to ensure market competitiveness related to base pay, bonus, incentive and commission programs. The Compensation and Payroll Specialist prepares management reports and support special HR department projects.
DUTIES
- Oversee bi‑weekly payroll processing and special payroll runs, ensuring adherence to procedures, timely data transmission, and accurate General Ledger postings.
- Review payroll documentation for bonuses, incentives, and commissions to verify calculation accuracy and required approvals.
- Research and resolve inquiries from managers and advisors regarding payroll matters, including time‑off balances, tax questions, pay calculations, and system support.
- Process wage tax filings and corrections, and distribute W‑2s, 1099s, and other annual payroll or compensation forms.
- Support management with organizational structure initiatives and assist with compensation‑related projects, guidelines, and procedures for annual merit, bonus, and equity planning cycles.
- Participate in salary surveys and compensation analysis projects.
- Assist in administering base pay, bonus, incentive, and commission programs.
- Collaborate with HR Management to ensure the HRIS system aligns with compensation requirements and reflects updates to salary structures, incentive programs, and related changes.
- Develop and update job descriptions and support the determination of appropriate salary ranges in partnership with compensation consultants.
- Prepare management and accounting reports as needed.
- Ensure timely processing of departmental invoices and maintain an up‑to‑date budget file.
- Support compensation integration activities for mergers and acquisitions.
- Respond to and assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Complete special projects as assigned, including ad‑hoc analyses and preparation of observations and recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and maintain updated procedures and SOPs in response to software, program, or regulatory changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
