The MRO Buyer / Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing MRO supplies, production materials, subcontracted goods, and services to support manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities
Procurement of Materials, MRO, and Services
- Purchase raw materials, components, semi‑finished and finished goods, MRO supplies, and facility/maintenance items
- Ensure timely acquisition of products and services to support production and operational needs
- Actively source new products, suppliers, and alternate sources to improve cost, quality, and supply continuity
- Negotiate pricing, terms, delivery commitments, and long‑term agreements
- Maintain and update purchase orders, pricing databases, and supplier records
Supplier Management & Development
- Evaluate, manage, and develop existing and potential suppliers and service providers
- Review performance, resolve issues, and communicate specifications
- Lead supplier improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives
- Collaborate with cross‑functional internal teams to resolve quality concerns, address delivery discrepancies, and reconcile invoicing variances.
- Represent the company professionally in all supplier interactions
MRP / ERP Data Ownership
- Maintain material, supplier, and planning data within the MRP/ERP system
- Update lead times, pricing, safety stock, and purchasing parameters
- Review accuracy of purchasing and inventory data to support planning and production
- Support cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives
Production & Operations Support
- Plan, schedule, and monitor subcontracted goods and services to meet production requirements
- Collaborate with production planning, engineering, maintenance, quality, and accounting
- Identify and drive activities to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce operational risk
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Analyze cost trends and identify opportunities for savings or supplier consolidation
- Recommend improvements to purchasing policies, processes, and systems
- Troubleshoot material shortages, supplier delays, and technical issues
- Participate in cross‑functional projects aimed at improving supply chain performance
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and conflict‑resolution skills
- Solid understanding of MRP, inventory management, and production planning principles
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Dynamics AX/D365 preferred)
Preferred
- Experience purchasing both MRO supplies and production materials
- Background in supplier development or cost‑reduction programs
- Ability to read technical drawings or specifications
- Experience with lean manufacturing or supply chain optimization
