This role is best suited for someone who: works independently and prioritizes well without close oversight; is genuinely comfortable with technology and eager to learn new systems; enjoys building and documenting their own processes (SOPs, training videos) rather than just following existing ones; and brings a problem-solving, growth-oriented mindset to a fast-changing HR environment while staying focused on service to employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, with a Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business, or a related field preferred. The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email systems, and general office software, and must be able to learn, navigate, and maintain HR information systems, including MUNIS (or comparable HRIS/ERP platforms), Position Control, the Applicant Tracking System, and other online HR systems. The candidate should understand — or be willing to learn — how these systems connect and share data with one another, so that information stays accurate and consistent across platforms.
This role also requires the ability to learn, create, and update Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents and instructional videos, both for employees and for the generalist's own areas of responsibility, so that HR processes are well-documented, repeatable, and easy to hand off or reference.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize competing tasks, and manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment are essential, as is a genuine commitment to continuous growth as the needs of the department and those it serves continue to evolve. The candidate must have the ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information, and exercise discretion at all times. Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices (including FMLA, COBRA, and other applicable regulations) is expected, with a commitment to staying current as laws and policies change.
