DESCRIPTION:
The Homebound/Homebased Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction to K–12 students who are temporarily unable to attend school due to medical, behavioral, or other approved circumstances. Instruction may be provided in person at the student's home or virtually, depending on the student’s needs. The teacher ensures continuity of learning, facilitates academic progress aligned with the student’s regular instructional program, and collaborates with school staff and families to support successful student outcomes. This full-time role requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a student-centered mindset.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed):
- Establish and maintain a consistent instructional schedule with the student’s family on regular school days.
- Coordinate with the student’s classroom teachers, counselor, and program coordinator to deliver aligned instruction.
- Utilize and manage instructional materials provided by the student’s teachers.
- Support and oversee online instruction for students enrolled in virtual learning programs, as applicable.
- Track and submit accurate documentation of instructional hours and student progress.
- Return completed assignments to classroom teachers by designated deadlines; maintain documentation of student work.
- Document and report any instances of missed instructional time due to student unavailability.
- Implement instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning styles, needs, and backgrounds.
- Administer assessments as required.
- Maintain student confidentiality and ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.
- Maintain professional and timely communication with all stakeholders.
SUPERVISION:
This position operates under the supervision of the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel. The teacher may also collaborate with other instructional leaders, classroom teachers, and school-based staff.
WORK CONDITIONS:
This position may involve travel to students’ homes, school settings, or community-based locations. Instruction may also be delivered virtually as needed. The role requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student needs, which may include evening hours. Physical demands are generally light and may include periods of sitting, walking, standing, and carrying instructional materials. The teacher must provide their own transportation. Situations involving students or families under stress may require calm, empathetic communication and sound judgment.
