Position Summary
The Community Support Specialist provides one-on-one and community-based support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them build independence, develop life skills, and actively participate in community life. This role focuses on person-centered support, skill coaching, and meaningful community engagement aligned with each individual’s goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Support individuals in community activities such as volunteering, recreation, shopping, and social events
- Provide structured coaching in daily living skills (money management, communication, safety, transportation, social skills)
- Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and confidence
- Monitor health and safety in all environments
- Complete documentation, progress notes, and reports accurately and on time
- Participate in team meetings and service reviews
- Represent the organization professionally in the community
Qualifications
- At least 1 year experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to transport individuals
- Ability to manage schedules and multiple priorities
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with mobility/transfer support when needed
- Comfortable working in community, residential, and office settings
- Ability to use basic computer programs and electronic record systems
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $22.31 per hour
