What are the responsibilities and job description for the Opera Singer position at HOPERA?
Company Description
Here at HOPERA we are all about empowering local artists and craft businesses by putting on quality, casual performances where Houstonians love to drink. We collaborate with the local craft beverage community to create original concerts and operas. We believe that opera is for anyone, that there’s an opera for everyone, and that it’s our job to show Houston that opera doesn’t fit into a tiny stuffy box.
Role Description
We are always interested in growing our list of Houston-based artists. Currently, we are accepting applications to be considered for our version of Cosi fan Tutte in May (baritones only), paid and volunteer caroling*, HOPERA for Hire, and concepts for next season’s Pint-Sized Performance series!
Pint-Sized Performances (2026-2027 Season): Artists are engaged to create a unique recital to be presented 2-3 times in different tasting rooms in the Houston Area. All Artists are expected to plan and prepare independently from HOPERA. These performances typically involve 2-4 performers in total, including 1 pianist, but other ensembles are welcome to apply. Only recitals that include vocalists will be considered. There are no language or style restrictions, but classical, operatic, and story-driven music is preferred. Mics are available upon request, and encouraged at outdoor venues. Performances are scheduled by HOPERA around the calendars of the Artists and our Partner Venues, and typically happen within 1 week of each other.
HOPERA for Hire: HOPERA is excited to launch HOPERA for Hire, a new service connecting our talented artists with special events, private parties, and community performances across Houston. We’re looking for singers who bring both vocal excellence and a flair for engaging audiences at bespoke concerts and caroling events. If you’re ready to take your artistry beyond the stage and into memorable, one-of-a-kind experiences, apply at the link below. Artists will be contacted on an as-needed basis.
Volunteer Caroling: Bring holiday cheer where it matters most! HOPERA is seeking volunteer carolers to share music and joy with patients, families, and staff at Texas Children’s Hospital this season. If you love to sing and want to make spirits bright, we’d love for you to join our caroling crew. Artists will be contacted on an as-needed basis.
