POSITION SUMMARY:
The Outpatient Therapist conducts clinical assessments, offers short term individual therapy, couple's treatment, and group therapy, when appropriate Authorizations and reauthorizations are completed as required by third party payers, completes needs assessments, develops individual recovery plans, and provides direct skill teaching/psych education, individual counseling, family psychoeducation, family counseling and crisis intervention. Provides individual/group supervision to Community Support Specialists. Provides training, support and mentoring to new employees and coordinates students and volunteers as needed.
SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:
Hybrid: At least 2 days in office
Generally: M-F, 9-5. 1 later day (10-6, 11-7) is expected.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Provide short term individual therapy, couple's treatment, and group therapy in person or through Video conference Telehealth, when appropriate.
- Complete assessment to establish DSM/ICD10 diagnosis to determine eligibility of clients for services.
- Assess and evaluate skill strengths and deficits of clients to determine clinical necessity and complete initial authorization for services.
- Use motivational interviewing to engage clients in making a commitment to change and increase readiness to make behavioral changes needed to improve functioning and overall wellness.
- Provide use of cognitive behavioral techniques such as breathing retraining, identifying negative thoughts and feelings, cognitive distortions and teach skills to change thought pattern and behavior of clients.
- Provide psychoeducation on signs/symptoms and teach coping skills to improve functioning.
- Provide crisis intervention and safety risk assessments. Refer for emergency evaluation if risk issues warrant a more intensive level of care. Complete Critical Incident reporting according to agency and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in resolving billing or payment related issues with 3rd party insurance when
- requested by Director of Outpatient Services.
- Maintain clinical documentation as required by Medicare, Medicaid, and 3rd party payers.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nursing Specialist (PMHCNS) in the state of Virginia plus 2 years of experience working with individuals living with mental illness. Experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy required.
- Master's degree in one of the following fields: Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Behavior Analysis, or Substance Abuse.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and methods of the psychological and social development of the individual.
- Knowledge of psychiatric, psychological, and/or sociological terminology and concepts.
- Competency in use of motivational interviewing and time limited psychotherapy.
- Excellent written communication with ability to build rapport quickly with client and internal/external providers.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish Preferred
- Ability to work independently, self-starter, and well organized.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR); familiarity with Credible a plus.
- High degree of empathy toward the clients we serve.
