Barn Hand

The Barn Hand position is a part-time role responsible for supporting the daily care of Hope Meadows' therapy horses and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized barn environment. Working under the supervision of the Barn Manager, Barn Staff assist with feeding, watering, grooming, turnout, stall cleaning, and general barn maintenance while ensuring the health and well-being of the horses. This position requires previous horse or farm experience, strong animal handling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions. Barn Staff also interact professionally with volunteers, clients, families, and equine care providers while upholding Hope Meadows' standards, ethics, and commitment to excellence in horse care and facility operations.

Job Knowledge/Responsibilities:

• Understanding of and adherence to Hope Meadows’ Equine Specific & General ethics, standards, and practices.
• Responsible for bringing in and turning out horses.
• Responsible for assigned care of horses (grooming, appropriate hydration, hay service & preparation, grain service & preparation).
• Responsible for assigned care and cleaning of barn and related facilities; including stall cleaning, water bucket dumping, aisle sweeping, and general tidiness.
• Handle animals safely and responsibly during feeding, grooming, turn-out or veterinary procedures.
• Communicate farm tasks with any volunteer assistants and ensure standard of work is maintained.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working on a farm or with horses is required
• Ability to operate or learn to operate basic farm equipment
• Strong knowledge of animal care practices and basic animal handling techniques
• Basic math skills for measuring feed quantities or calculating dosages
• Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks in various weather conditions
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
