This leader ensures excellence in school operations by managing facilities, transportation, food service, safety, vendor relationships, compliance support, and the operational logistics that enable high-quality teaching and learning.The Director of Operations is a hands-on, solutions-oriented leader who builds systems, communicates clearly, and supports staff so the school can focus on student outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesSchool Operations & SystemsOversee daily school operations to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient campus functioningDevelop and manage operational systems, procedures, and schoolwide logistics (arrival/dismissal, transitions, safety protocols)Create and maintain an annual operations calendar (deadlines, inspections, seasonal needs, contracts)Facilities & SafetyManage building operations, maintenance requests, and facility compliance requirementsCoordinate safety plans, drills, emergency procedures, and campus security protocolsServe as point person for vendors and building partners related to repairs, custodial services, and equipmentTransportation & Food ServiceCoordinate transportation routes, logistics, and communication with providers and familiesOversee daily meal service operations and ensure compliance with meal program expectationsTroubleshoot transportation and meal service issues quickly and professionallyVendor & Budget ManagementManage operational vendor contracts and track performance and service qualitySupport the school leader with operational budget monitoring, purchasing, and cost controlsMaintain inventory of supplies and manage ordering systems aligned to school needsCompliance & Documentation SupportMaintain accurate operational records (inspections, incident logs, vendor documentation, building compliance items)Support school compliance systems related to operations, safety, and facilities requirementsPrepare operational reports as needed for leadership and authorizersFamily & Staff ServiceServe as a responsive point of contact for operational questions from families and staffSupport a customer-service culture grounded in respect, clarity, and follow-throughTrain and support front office and operations staff, as applicableRequired QualificationsBachelors degree required (Masters preferred)3 years of operations, school operations, or project management experience (school setting strongly preferred)Demonstrated ability to manage systems, logistics, vendors, and multiple prioritiesStrong written and verbal communication skillsHigh attention to detail and ability to maintain compliance documentationCalm, solutions-focused approach in fast-paced environmentsPreferred QualificationsExperience in K12 school operations (charter or district)Knowledge of school safety planning, facilities management, and transportation systemsExperience managing budgets, purchasing, and vendor contractsBilingual (Spanish/English) a plus (if relevant to your community)Core CompetenciesOperational excellence and systems thinkingResponsiveness and follow-throughStrong organization and time managementDiscretion, professionalism, and integrityTeam-oriented leadership and relationship building
