Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Academic Coordinator to lead and oversee, with another staff member, our newly established on-site afterschool program. Working with a group of 10–16 Scholars, the Academic Coordinator will implement our core programming, focusing on academic excellence, personal growth, and life skills.
The Academic Coordinator serves as a mentor and coach, providing one-on-one academic support and acting as the primary point of contact for Scholars, school staff, parents, and the Hope Ignites leadership team.
Schedule
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 PM – 8:00 PM
- 3:30-4:00 for on-site planning, 4:00-6:00 Academy Program, 6:00-7:00 Dinner Provided, 7:00-8:00 transportation back home
- One Saturday per month for enrichment activities from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Additional remote work may be required, specifically for onboarding and initial training and ongoing documentation (1-2 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Hope Ignites curriculum in a structured, private environment for a small group of Scholars.
- Develop activities that enhance personal development, career exploration, and life skills.
- Utilize digital learning tools to supplement academic instruction. This could include virtual tutoring sessions, adaptive learning programs, and gamified learning platforms.
- Supervise and work alongside Youth Specialists providing support to the Scholars in our program.
- Provide individualized coaching and monitor academic progress.
- Communicate regularly with teachers to identify Scholars’ strengths and areas for improvement.
- Offer workshops on time management, study techniques, and exam preparation to help Scholars build essential academic skills.
- Assist Scholars in setting and achieving personalized goals every six months.
- Safely transport Scholars from school to the program site and back home.
- Arrange the classroom environment for optimal learning.
- Maintain regular communication with families through emails, letters, and parent meetings.
- Occasionally organize and accompany Scholars on educational field trips.
- Track academic and personal development using assessment tools and database systems.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and other Youth Specialists to enhance program delivery.
- Identify ways in which we can improve and expand our current program by implementing best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or related field preferred.
- At least two years of supervisory or educational experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve problems effectively.
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures, religions, and backgrounds
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record for at least three years.
Working Conditions
- Based primarily at Hope Ignites residential home, with travel required for transporting Scholars and attending events.
- Estimated 15–20 hours per week, with potential for additional hours during peak programming.
- Requires the ability to supervise adolescents in classroom, school, and community settings.
- Requires the ability to use stairs to access all areas of the home and Academy classroom.
Pay
- Starting pay is $20.00/hour.
