What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Advocate position at Hope House Inc?

Join our Team as an Advocate for Survivors of Domestic Violence!

Are you passionate about standing beside survivors of domestic violence and making a real difference in their journey toward safety and healing? Hope House is seeking dedicated Court / Co-Responding Advocates to work closely with survivors, law enforcement, and the courts. This role blends direct crisis response with supportive legal advocacy—no two days are ever the same. If you thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and want to use your skills to create safer communities, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Do:

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and support to domestic violence survivors in urgent situations.
  • Assist with orders of protection and guide survivors through legal and court processes.
  • Partner with law enforcement by riding along on domestic violence calls, conducting follow-up visits, and maintaining strong relationships with officers.
  • Support survivors navigating criminal and civil court systems, including coordinating with prosecutors and gathering victim impact information.
  • Connect survivors to resources and referrals for other support services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts and public awareness activities.
  • Provide on-call coverage on a rotating basis to ensure 24-hour emergency response.

What We're Looking For:

  • A strong communicator with empathy, resilience, and the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Someone who values teamwork and collaboration with survivors, staff, and community partners.
  • A professional who is detail-oriented and organized.
  • Experience in (or a strong interest in learning about) domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, and survivor-centered advocacy.
  • A bachelor's degree in social work, criminal justice, human services, or comparable field; or equivalent experience in advocacy or crisis intervention services.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).

Not sure you check every box? Apply anyway - skills can be learned, but commitment to survivors is what matters most.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, primarily during business hours. Flexibility is required for occasional early morning, evening, or weekend needs.
  • Rotating on-call shifts to provide 24/7 crisis support.
  • Work takes place in a variety of settings: office locations, police departments, courtrooms, and community spaces, with frequent direct contact with survivors and law enforcement.
  • Travel between Hope House locations, courts, and police departments is a regular part of the role.
