HFNY focuses on expanding and deepening partnerships with faith-based nonprofits in NYC (our affiliates) through financial support, volunteer mobilization, capacity building, and collaborative networks. These efforts resource and strengthen HFNY’s affiliates with the goal that they are thriving and effective, as measured by incorporation of nonprofit best practices, so that the greatest number of the poor and marginalized in NYC can experience holistic flourishing.
ABOUT THE ROLE
HFNY seeks a highly motivated individual who will be responsible for growing our volunteer mobilization efforts to support the work of our affiliates. This role engages with HFNY’s 70 nonprofit partners to support the design and development of robust, meaningful, and well-structured volunteer opportunities. This role will also work closely with the Mobilization Team, Program Team, volunteers, and external partners to advance volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts and report on volunteer mobilization and satisfaction, with a goal of growing our volunteer network by at least 10% annually.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Program Design & Development
- Manage HFNY’s volunteer support to affiliates, including program oversight and quality control
- Build and Maintain relationships with affiliate staff responsible for volunteer management across the network to ensure strong communication, partnership, and resourcing
- Work closely with HFNY Program Team and affiliates to:
- Understand current volunteer program needs among the affiliate network
- Identify new ways volunteers can serve and develop programs and events accordingly
- Pilot, source, scale, and replicate volunteer opportunities across affiliate network
- Work to expand overall volunteer engagement opportunities at affiliates
- Ensure the accuracy of volunteer opportunities and volunteer data in Salesforce and on the HFNY website with support from the Operations Team
- Partner with other HFNY teams for the successful implementation of key seasonal volunteer initiatives including His Toy Store and Don’t Walk By
- Work with the Program team to assess affiliate volunteer programs and develop volunteer management capacity building initiatives
- Track volunteer program performance and ensure improvement of volunteer program performance year-over-year through capacity building and other HFNY resource investment
Volunteer Engagement and Mobilization
- Help develop and implement strategy for volunteer mobilization (recruit, cultivate and retain volunteers) across the organization
- Work with the Communications Team to share volunteer needs appropriately
- Support work with churches, organizations, corporations, and the Christian community to mobilize volunteers to radically and sacrificially serve the poor and marginalized
- Develop, cultivate, sustain, and grow volunteer engagement with individuals, churches, community groups, and corporations to align with the organization’s volunteer mobilization goals.
- Develop strategy for volunteer mobilization campaigns and events
- Create and grow specialized volunteer opportunities (e.g. large group, bilingual, mentoring/tutoring, family, youth, specialized skills, board members)
- Oversee volunteer recruitment for all citywide initiatives, including HFNY’s annual homelessness outreach day (Don't Walk By) and annual citywide holiday toy programming (His Toy Store)
- Help to create and send weekly urgent volunteer needs newsletter
- Collect feedback from volunteers and affiliate staff to assess the quality and effectiveness of volunteer programs
- Spearhead volunteer appreciation initiatives (including one-off opportunities and Volunteer Appreciation Week) to show gratitude and appreciation to our many dedicated volunteers
- Create standardized reporting to measure the success of our volunteer mobilization efforts
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep commitment to serving the poor and marginalized
- Identify with the Christian faith and attend a local church
- 3-5 years in volunteer program management, nonprofit work, business development, or consulting experience
- Resourceful, innovative, and strategic analytical problem-solving ability
- Excellent interpersonal and relational skills
- Strong verbal (including public speaking) and writing skills
- Driven self-starter, quick learner, diligent worker; able to work independently with minimal oversight
- Thrives under pressure and takes on difficult challenges
- Familiarity with New York City’s nonprofit sector and faith-based community
- Effectively explains and interprets organizational policies and procedures
- Strong collaborator; demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team
- Ensures consistent and effective follow up with internal and external stakeholders
- Must-have positive and humble attitude; flexible and adaptable; open to feedback
- Proficient in G Suite (Google applications)
- Experience working with databases – (Salesforce strongly preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
