Overview
Hope Community is a not-for-profit affordable housing organization founded in 1968. Our core mission is to enhance the quality of life for low- and moderate-income families in Harlem through the development, preservation, and management of affordable housing and community-focused commercial spaces.
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join our finance team. The Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing strategic financial guidance. This position requires a strong background in accounting and finance, with a focus on maintaining accurate financial records and reporting.
Duties
- Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
- ·Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing.
- · Reviews, evaluates, and implements accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- · Ensures all financial reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.
- · Supervises monthly balancing of books and monthly account reviews; prepares and presents monthly financial statements.
- · Coordinates annual independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents of Hope Community and its subsidaries.
- · Provides management with timely reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress.
- · Ensures compliance with statutory payroll and property tax reporting.
- · Monitors receivables to ensure credit risk is mitigated.
- · Oversees accounts payable function including but not limited to compliance with expense reporting, capitalization policy, and purchase order procedures.
- · Assists with company strategic planning.
- · Assists with special projects as required.
- · Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- · Directly supervises 2 employees within the Finance department.
- · Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- · Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- · 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- · Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements
- · Recent working experience with Yardi Voyager a plus.
- · Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- · Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- · Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
