Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager, Controller, and Director of Finance with various tasks. This position will report to the Accounting Manager.
This is a 1.0 FTE position. The target start date for this position is October 7, 2024. This is an in-person position. Normal working hours are 8am to 5pm with an hour for lunch.
Below are general job responsibilities of this position:
- Bank reconciliations for our general, accounts payable, and payroll checking accounts
- Trust, Annuity, Pooled Income Fund, and other Investment accounting, including issuing K-1’s and 1099’s to beneficiaries, and ensuring timely payment to beneficiaries
- Prepare the annual report to the New York Insurance Department for the College’s Annuity Fund
- Issue 1099’s for non-employee compensation and other miscellaneous payments
- Enter journal entries into the college’s ERP. Additionally, oversee the entering, scanning, and filing of journal entries for Business Services
- Writing journal entries for various internal charges
- Provide monthly reports to campus partners
- Monthly sales tax reporting
- Annual Michigan escheats process
- Reconcile daily cash receipting for Business Services and the college retail operations
- Point person for auxiliary enterprise functions, including retail cash and credit card processing through the college’s ledger system
- Assist with the year end closing process
- Resolve and correct accounting errors
- Assist with accounts payable. Including but not limited to processing invoices, entering invoices into the college’s ERP, and submitting invoices for approval
- Manage record retention for Business Services
- Act as liaison between Business Services and various student organizations who manage significant amounts of money. Assist the Student Congress Controller with the student organization budgets and questions
- Assist the Controller and Accounting Manager with the college’s external financial statement and Single Audits
- Assist with sponsored program accounting, including assisting with invoicing and requesting cash payments for grants and reporting
- Act as team lead for the Accounts Payable. This includes assisting with A/P coverage for vacations, sick days, etc.
- Assist with Accounts Receivable as needed
- Admin on the P-card program
- Prepare annual report for the Equity and Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA)
- Assist with oversight of the College’s expense policy
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, or other related field with relevant accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate to expert Excel skills.
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Physical Demands
This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
