Your Role: As an Occupational Therapist, you will assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs that help build or restore vocational, homemaking, and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Experience: Minimum of five (2) years’ experience with OT prefer experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of sensory processing strategies, behavior support plans, and functional skill development.
- Familiarity with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and adapt communication styles to diverse audiences.
- Special Skills/Licenses: State of New Jersey Occupational Therapy license in good standing.
- Employee shall submit to drug testing prior to employment.
- Must submit to a criminal background check and be determined to be not disqualified by the department of Human Services prior to hire.
- Employee shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
- Must agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Child Abuse Registry Information.
- Complete cooperation with the licensee (Hope Christian Services) and department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Evaluate functional abilities, needs, and goals of individuals with disabilities through assessments and observation.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy plans to improve fine and gross motor skills, cognitive processing, sensory integration, and self-care abilities.
- Interact with residents and loved ones with impeccable customer service principles and professionalism.
- Adapt activities, tools, and environments to support accessibility and participation in daily routines.
- Familiarity with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications.
- Provide education and training to other staff members on adaptive techniques and environmental supports.
- Assist in personal care ie. toileting if indicated, protect resident in event of emergency, provide assistance and/or summon help in event of medical emergency.
- Regulatory Compliance: Cooperate with HCS and the Department of Human Services during inspections and investigations.
- Maintain work schedule and clean safe work environment.
