JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Enrichment Teacher
REPORTS TO: School Principal and Executive Director of Exceptional Education Services
JOB GOAL: To coordinate the development and implementation of enrichment services to provide students with advanced learning and enrichment activities, experiences, and opportunities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Alabama teacher’s certificate with endorsement in gifted education
- Experience in a school setting as a regular classroom teacher or gifted/enrichment teacher Experience with and/or knowledge of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
- Coordinates the implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model
- Trains teachers in the implementation of the second-grade screening referral process
- Assists teachers in implementing second-grade lessons used in the screening referral process
- Coordinates the referral process for the enrichment program
- Collaborates with other enrichment teachers to implement an enrichment program districtwide that is equitable in quality and quantity
- Meets on a regularly scheduled basis with students identified as having behaviors that reflect above-average ability, high levels of task commitment, and high levels of creative thinking
- Identifies areas of student strengths and weaknesses and plans concept-based learning experiences and activities
- Sets up problems, experiments, projects, and activities related to student needs, interests, and capabilities
- Develops appropriate learning experiences with a variety of curricular options, strategies, materials, and topics of student choice for enrichment students
- Collaborates with general education teachers to adapt, modify, and replace (differentiate) curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of enrichment students within the regular classroom setting
- Consults with general education teachers to enable (assist) them to provide enrichment opportunities to all students
- Assists general education teachers in securing resources to enrich the curriculum
- Facilitates students in the preparation and implementation of independent study projects in the area of interest and/or competence
- Provides training to teachers in various areas of enrichment, such as characteristics of gifted learners, curriculum compacting, the four parallels of curriculum (core, connections, practice, and identity), concept-based curriculum, Type I, II, and III activities, etc.
- Coordinates the implementation of enrichment clusters when appropriate
- Facilitates the Schoolwide Enrichment Team comprised of teachers, parents, community resources/agencies/personnel to assist in coordinating Type I, II, and III activities
- Actively engages in ongoing, continuous professional learning
- Uses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policy
- Practices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools’ Acceptable Use Agreement
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
- Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
- Complies with local and state regulations regarding gifted/enrichment records, reports, and services
- Cooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school.
- Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
