We are looking for a reliable and highly flexible Part-Time Refrigeration & Equipment Technician to manage the maintenance and operational support of our ice-related assets. The primary focus is troubleshooting and servicing ice merchandisers (freezers) both in the field and at our main warehouse, along with maintaining our specialized ice making and bagging equipment. This role requires a willingness to pivot to hands-on production support, including ice bagging and truck loading, when maintenance tasks are complete or equipment is running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Focus: Refrigeration & Field Service
- Ice Merchandiser Maintenance: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and emergency repairs on field and warehouse-based ice merchandisers (upright freezers).
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with refrigeration circuits, electrical components, temperature controls, and defrost systems.
- Field Travel: Travel locally to various customer locations to service and repair merchandisers, ensuring minimal downtime for sales partners.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work related to refrigerants is performed in compliance with EPA standards.
Equipment Maintenance (Warehouse)
- Equipment Repair: Execute maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on industrial ice-making machines and automated ice-bagging and sealing equipment.
- System Integrity: Maintain the operational efficiency of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems feeding the ice production line.
Operational Support & Flexibility (Crucial Requirement)
- Production Support: When maintenance duties allow, the technician must be willing and able to assist with general production tasks. This includes operating and overseeing the ice bagging machine and actively loading bagged ice onto delivery trucks.
- Team Player: Demonstrate flexibility by helping the production and warehouse teams as needed to meet delivery deadlines.
Vehicle Maintenance (Bonus Skill)
- Light Truck Support (Bonus): If qualified, assist with basic preventive maintenance and minor repairs on our fleet of box truck delivery vehicles (e.g., fluid checks, minor electrical work, lighting repair, general inspections).
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience (e.g., 2 years) specifically with commercial refrigeration and/or HVAC-R systems.
- Mandatory: Valid EPA Section 608 Certification (Type I and II or Universal) is required due to handling refrigerants.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing complex machinery (preferably industrial ice makers or similar automated equipment).
- High degree of flexibility and willingness to assist with physically demanding production and loading tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for field service travel.
Physical & Work Requirements
