Position SummaryThe Crew Lead / Supervisor oversees all on-site aspects of a move to ensure safety, efficiency, customer satisfaction, and compliance with company policies. Supervisors act as the point of contact between customers, movers, and management, ensuring that each move is completed on time, within scope, and to Hoosier Buddy’s professional standards. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of company procedures and safety expectations.
Core Responsibilities1. Leadership & Job Management
- · Lead, coordinate, and motivate the moving crew throughout each job.
- · Conduct an initial walkthrough of the property to verify the customer’s inventory, note pre-existing damages, and ensure all areas are clear and safe for movers.
- · Assign movers to specific roles (loader, carrier, wrapper, etc.) to maximize efficiency.
- · Supervise loading and unloading to ensure all items are properly padded, wrapped, and secured.
- · Make on-the-spot adjustments to schedules or labor needs if conditions change.
- · Communicate proactively with Operations if unexpected delays, damages, or additional items occur.
- · Ensure all company paperwork (Service Agreement, Added Items Acknowledgement, Damage Reports) is completed and signed before departure.
- · Conduct a final walkthrough with the customer before leaving each location to confirm satisfaction.
2. Customer Relations
- · Greet customers with professionalism and establish trust as the on-site leader.
- · Clearly explain the moving process, estimated time, and any additional charges (added items, extra stops, wrapping, etc.).
- · Address customer concerns or special requests promptly and respectfully.
- · Collect signatures on all required forms and handle any on-site payments if authorized.
- · Encourage customers to leave reviews and share their experience post-move.
3. Team Development & Accountability
- · Train and mentor new movers on proper lifting techniques, wrapping procedures, and safety standards.
- · Ensure all team members remain professional, productive, and courteous on every job.
- · Monitor work pace and coach employees when necessary to maintain consistency and quality.
- · Address and document any misconduct, unsafe behavior, or performance issues.
- · Maintain crew morale and teamwork under time pressure.
4. Safety & Compliance
- · Enforce safe lifting and carrying techniques at all times.
- · Ensure the truck is properly packed and secured before transport.
- · Maintain compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations regarding driving, hours, and load weight limits.
- · Report any accidents, damages, or injuries immediately to management.
- · Conduct post-job inspections of trucks and equipment, ensuring they are returned clean and undamaged.
- · Guarantee adherence to company policies: no smoking, vaping, music, or profanity near customer property.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- · Record job start and end times accurately on the Daily Clock-In Time Sheet.
- · Log total labor hours, drive time, mileage, and notes for every job.
- · Complete incident or damage reports as needed and submit them to management the same day.
- · Verify that all job-related documents are correctly filled out and uploaded to SmartMoving.
- · Track equipment usage (pads, straps, dollies, wrap) and report if supplies need restocking.
Performance Expectations
- · Leadership: Direct crews with confidence, fairness, and professionalism.
- · Communication: Keep customers and team members fully informed throughout the job.
- · Efficiency: Maintain consistent workflow while protecting all items and property.
- · Accountability: Complete all paperwork accurately and submit it promptly.
- · Customer Experience: Ensure a 5-star service every time through care and attention.
- · Safety: Zero injuries, zero vehicle incidents, zero unreported damages.
Qualifications
- · Must be 21 years or older.
- · Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
- · Minimum 1 year of moving or leadership experience required.
- · Strong understanding of moving procedures, equipment, and truck loading techniques.
- · Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- · Strong physical endurance; ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs repeatedly.
- · Dependable, professional, and customer-service oriented.
- · Ability to lead by example and make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
Physical Demands
- · Continuous lifting, carrying, and loading heavy items.
- · Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing stairs, and standing for long hours.
- · Ability to perform physically demanding labor in various weather conditions.
- · May require long shifts or split shifts depending on job schedules.
