JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Tribal Chairman, the motel manager is responsible for the overall operations, financial performance, and guest experience of the Tsewenaldin Inn. This position oversees all front desk operations, housekeeping and maintenance needs, and customer service to ensure efficient operations and high standards of cleanliness, safety, and hospitality. The Tsewenaldin Manager will have a strong focus on rebranding the motel, increasing visibility, and driving revenue growth. The incumbent must have excellent customer services skills, providing a warm, and welcoming environment for guests. This role requires a self-starter, who can proactively identify opportunities for growth for the business.

This position may be eligible for a performance or revenue-based bonus tied to operational and financial performance, in accordance with approved and available funding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversee day to day motel operations, including reservations, check-in/check-out, all front desk functions, and guest services; ensuring a consistent, high-quality customer experience.

2. Manage all aspects of facility operations, including cleanliness, safety, and coordination of routine and emergency maintenance and repairs.

3. Develop and manage the motel’s budget, including tracking revenue and expenses, and operating within the approved budget.

4. Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and overall visibility, including promotions, partnerships, and use of online booking platforms.

5. Maintain accurate records of reservations, rates, revenue, expenditures, and operational activities.

6. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; establish work schedules and ensure adequate coverage for operations.

7. Ensure compliance with all Tribal policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.

8. Communicate regularly with Tribal Council, leadership, and/or administrative support staff by providing updates on operations, financial performance, and any issues requiring attention.

9. Address guest concerns, complaints, and service issues in a timely and professional manner.

10. Establish and maintain internal procedures and systems to improve efficiency, consistency, and accountability.

11. Ensure the motel is adequately stocked and maintained to support operations and guest satisfaction; coordinating with vendors, contractors, and service providers for supplies, maintenance, and operational needs. Purchase and manage supplies and services as needed.

12. Ensure the property is maintained in a clean, safe, and presentable condition at all times.

13. Submits monthly reports to Tribal Chairman and Tribal Council on the motel’s finances, and overall updates and progress.

14. Ensures the business and personnel maintain compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Tribal policies and procedures, while maintaining proper records and supporting administrative requirements.

15. Perform other duties as assigned in support of motel operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Motel Manager is responsible for providing overall supervision of motel staff, including hiring, scheduling, training, performance management, and enforcement of Tribal policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must meet one of the following combinations of education and experience:

· High school diploma or GED AND a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in hospitality, customer service, retail, lodging, RV park operations, or a related field; OR

· Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, Management, Marketing, Hospitality, Communications, or a related field AND three (3) years of relevant experience; OR

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality, Marketing, Management, or a related field, preferred; AND at least one to two years of supervisory, or management experience, or demonstrated ability to oversee staff and daily operations.

· Must be at least 18 years old.

· Experience with budgeting, revenue tracking, purchasing, cost control, and basic financial management.

· Experience managing day-to-day operations, including customer service, scheduling, vendor coordination, and facility operations.

· Experience working within a Tribal organization, government, or similarly regulated environment is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Ability to independently manage motel operations, including staff oversight (if applicable), facility upkeep, and daily functions.

· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with attention to cleanliness, safety, and guest experience.

· Ability to establish and maintain efficient systems and coordinate routine maintenance and repairs.

· Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, professional updates to Tribal Council, leadership, and staff.

· Knowledge of industry trends, customer service standards, and applicable Tribal policies and procedures.

· Proficiency in computer systems and programs necessary for daily operations.

· Demonstrated ability to support revenue growth, occupancy, and customer engagement. through marketing and business development efforts.

· Knowledge of property management systems (PMS), reservations platforms, or bookkeeping software.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Regular employees are subject to a (90) day introductory evaluation and annual performance evaluations thereafter.

2. Employee is subject to the Tribe’s Drug & Alcohol Policy including pre­employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and re-entry testing.

3. In-Training Appointment: This position may be filled on an “in-training” basis for candidates who do not fully meet the minimum qualifications but demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience, consistent with the Tribe’s established wage scale. An in-training appointment will include a defined training period, performance expectations, and ongoing evaluation. Continued employment and progression to full status are contingent upon satisfactory performance and successfully achieving required competency benchmarks within the established timeframe. Compensation may be adjusted upon successful completion of the in-training period in accordance with applicable policy.

4. Must possess a valid California Driver's License and be insurable under the Tribes Motor Vehicle Policy during term of employment, if driving is an essential function of the position.

5. Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, customer-service environment, including handling guest concerns, operational issues, and competing priorities.The incumbent must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions; assess situations, make sound decisions. Must be able to assess situations, identify issues, and implement practical solutions related to guest concerns, staffing, maintenance, and operational priorities, often with limited supervision.

6. Work Environment: Characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, . While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in rugged and uneven terrain and may involve exposure to high-risk emergency environments. Work schedules may include extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response assignments; as well as extended travel assignments.

7. Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with guests, staff, vendors, and Tribal leadership. Must be able to provide clear direction, respond to inquiries and complaints professionally, and prepare basic reports, summaries, and operational updates.

8. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform and apply basic math functions, including tracking and reconciling daily transactions, monitoring revenue and expenses, managing budgets, and reviewing financial or operational reports for accuracy and trends.

9. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The incumbent must have the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods. Duties may involve bending, reaching, and occasional lifting or carrying of supplies or equipment (typically up to 25–50 lbs.), as well as responding to on-site operational or maintenance issues as they arise.
