Job Summary
This position reports to the Recreation Supervisor, manages the Summer Camp program, and supervises summer camp/associated staff. The work hours may vary from week to week and will involve weekdays/weekends, holiday hours, and possibly a split shift. Schedule will be sporadic depending on positional needs. Employment will be less than 7 months per year, the position is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation. Work hours will be 8-20 hours/pay period to start and will increase as the start of camp draws closer. The position has two main parts 1) planning the camp activities and its themes and 2) coordinating staff and executing the plans.
Key Responsibilities
Supervises and leads campers through day camp activities such as games, sports, arts & crafts, songs and dances
Plans, coordinates and confirms 1-2 field trips per week for campers including admissions, bus scheduling, using proper staff to camper ratio of 8-1 or as protocol requires
Attends meetings with staff and/or the Recreation Department as needed
Helps with HRVPRD sponsored special events as needed
Provides lead direction and training to camp staff (including volunteers), creating an effective program team
Under the direction/oversight of the Recreation Supervisor, participates in the hiring process, including application reviews, interviews, hiring paperwork, training, daily supervision and work schedules
Prepares, decorates, oversees facilities and assures that they are ready for the campers to use safely
Maintains records including timesheets, weekly attendance reports, pandemic forms, volunteer registrations, camper records and accident reports etc.
Makes recommendations for needed improvements or safety issues
Communicates with appropriate authorities in emergency situations
Assists in providing direction and training to Camp Counselors I and II and volunteers as needed
