About the Position

Hood River PowerSports & Marine is seeking an experienced, high-performing Powersports Service Technician for immediate full-time employment.

This is not an entry-level technician position. We are looking for a proven professional who can independently diagnose problems, complete repairs correctly and efficiently, and take ownership of assigned work from initial diagnosis through final quality control.

Our Powersports Division services a wide range of motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, and related equipment. Our primary dealership brands include Yamaha, Kawasaki, CFMOTO, Sherco, Kayo, and other leading powersports manufacturers.

The right candidate will be comfortable handling everything from routine maintenance and accessory installation to advanced electrical diagnostics, engine repair, transmission work, and major mechanical rebuilds.

A technician with experience in both powersports and marine service is highly desirable, but marine experience is not required for an otherwise qualified powersports technician.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, ignition, drivability, and electronic-control-system problems
• Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and manufacturer-recommended services
• Repair motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, and related equipment
• Perform advanced engine, transmission, clutch, fuel-system, cooling-system, and drivetrain repairs
• Complete engine and transmission removal, repair, and rebuilding when required
• Use manufacturer diagnostic software and scan tools to communicate with modern ECU-controlled machines
• Interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, technical bulletins, and manufacturer repair procedures
• Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters and other diagnostic equipment
• Install accessories, winches, lighting, audio equipment, GPS systems, electronics, and other customer-requested upgrades
• Complete new-unit assembly, setup, inspection, and pre-delivery work as needed
• Conduct test rides or operational testing and complete final quality-control inspections
• Identify additional safety or reliability concerns and clearly document recommended repairs
• Accurately record technician time, diagnostic findings, parts used, and completed work on repair orders
• Communicate effectively with the service and parts team regarding estimates, parts requirements, delays, and repair status
• Maintain an organized, clean, and professional work area
• Follow dealership, manufacturer, warranty, and workplace-safety procedures

Required Qualifications

• Proven professional experience repairing powersports vehicles
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic ability
• Ability to troubleshoot modern fuel-injected and electronically controlled equipment
• Experience using manufacturer diagnostic software or comparable scan tools
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
• Ability to complete repairs independently and within reasonable labor-time expectations
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
• Reliable attendance and the ability to work the established Tuesday–Saturday schedule
• Ability to safely lift, move, and work around powersports vehicles, engines, components, and shop equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Factory training or certifications from Yamaha, Kawasaki, CFMOTO, or other major manufacturers
• Formal motorcycle, powersports, automotive, diesel, or marine technician education
• Advanced electrical and electronic diagnostic experience
• Engine and transmission rebuilding experience
• Personal watercraft or Yamaha Marine service experience
• Welding and fabrication capability
• Dealership service-department experience
• Experience processing warranty repairs and manufacturer documentation

Formal technician education is beneficial, but proven experience, diagnostic ability, work quality, and productivity are more important than credentials alone.

• Minimize comebacks through careful diagnosis and quality control
• Keep repair orders and technician notes accurate and current
• Communicate promptly when a diagnosis changes or additional work is required
• Protect customer property and dealership equipment
• Help improve service throughput and reduce unnecessary repair delays
• Continue developing technical knowledge as equipment and diagnostic systems evolve

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience, factory training, certifications, diagnostic capability, productivity, and demonstrated performance.

HRP is prepared to compensate an exceptional technician at a level that reflects the value, efficiency, and technical capability the technician brings to the service department. Specific compensation and employment terms will be discussed during the interview process.
