OPEN UNTIL FILLED. This is a Regular, year-round, 4 hour/day position and will begin as soon as possible. Training period: 6 am - 10 am. The regular work shift will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Pine Grove Early Intervention Campus.

Job Purpose Statement: Perform a variety of tasks involving general care of buildings and grounds. Work involves the cleaning, repairing, and maintenance of school buildings and grounds. Primary responsibility is to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work, learn, play and develop. Maintain the school building in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. The “Custodian 2” position is responsible for total custodial duties for one building. Employees in the “Custodian 2” classification are supervised by the Operations/Facilities Director and do not supervise other employees.
Essential Job Functions:
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events (i.e., regular school, community education, special events).
- Cleans district facilities (i.e. offices, floors, classrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, windows, restrooms, sinks, carpets, floors, garbage cans, wastebaskets, gym, cafeteria, and other areas as directed by supervisor, principal or head custodian) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
- Delivers variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties
- Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
- Informs principal, supervisor, other site personnel and students for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities
- Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site (i.e., unlock & lock doors, secure gates, check windows, turn lights off/on; operate heating plant and equipment)
- Participate in the general cleaning, including such things as washing windows and doors; sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and waxing floors; cleaning and vacuuming carpets.
- Assure that school grounds are well maintained.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance as required.
- Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., ventilation systems, generator alarms, fire alarms, firefighting equipment, water leaks, fires, etc.) and takes appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
Other Job Functions:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Repairs furniture, equipment and minor building damage for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition
- Requests equipment and supplies through the supervisor for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities
- May maintain grounds and operates equipment as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Experience Required: One year prior job related experience in school custodial or institutional building maintenance or related trade.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.
Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, safe work practices.
Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, working both indoors and outside in extreme conditions, follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, use good judgement to assess situations and act promptly and appropriately to emergent situations; keep supervisor and building administrator appraised of work situations and safety concerns; perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and parents. Maintain satisfactory and predictable attendance. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
Bilingual ability in English/Spanish Preferred.
Education Required: High School diploma or GED recommended.

The salary range listed below is for the 2025/26 school year. Classified employees who pass the District's English/Spanish bilingual test will earn an additional 5% per hour.
