Job Purpose Statement:
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the district IEP teams by designing and delivering professional development at the district and building level that translates OARS into practical strategies for IEP writing, progress monitoring and best practices.
- Review draft documentation for complex cases upon request of the Director of Special Education, providing support to staff for growth and paperwork accuracy.
- Support conducting collaborative compliance reviews to ensure student needs and regulatory requirements are met.
- Serve as a mentor for developing special education teachers skills in developing strong IEP writing skills and practices.
- Regularly visit school buildings to provide in-person support and troubleshooting around IEP development.
- Assist teams in drafting IEP progress documents that accurately reflect student potential and growth.
- Provide assistance for secondary transition compliance, focusing on Oregon’s transition planning components and post-secondary goal development.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Director to develop and maintain a district-wide Standard Operating Procedures manual for consistent paperwork practices.
- Synthesize internal audit findings to help the Director identify district-wide trends and prioritize future professional development topics.
- Translate legislative updates and ODE guidance into "user-friendly" practice guides and checklists for building-level staff
- Support the work of the district special education team and administrator to analyze district data to improve student outcomes.
- Partner with the technology department to identify and troubleshoot systemic Synergy user issues to improve the efficiency of IEP development.
- Supporting the district staff to foster respectful, successful and inclusive environments that respond to the diverse cultural and social needs of all students.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with school staff and with parents/guardians concerning academic and behavioral progress of students.
- Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of students.

Education and Experience Required: Degree with academic training in Special Education. Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a building level learning specialist or case manager.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
- Experience with and knowledge of students with a wide range of disabilities.
- Strong functional knowledge of IDEA and Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs).
- Knowledge of state and federal special education laws, regulations and procedures with regard to referral, identification, evaluation, placement and provision of a free, appropriate education, as well as student and staff rights.
- Demonstrated experience in mentorship or leadership roles focused on systems improvement.
- Ability to interpret complex legal standards to ensure student-centered documentation.
- Experience facilitating professional development and coaching adult learners.
- Familiarity with a variety of instructional, assessment and behavior management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.
- Proficiency in analyzing district and building student and system data to monitor outcomes.
- Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
- Possess strong leadership skills including communication and collaboration.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
Licenses, Certifications Required:
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement.
- Valid driver’s license, ability to meet district driving standards, and possess dependable transportation to drive to various sites within the district.

Compensation: The salary range listed below is based on a 192 day contract and on the 2025/26 salary schedule. The 2026/27 salary schedule is under negotiation. An Extended Day contract will be paid at the per diem rate for the assigned number of extra work days.
