EVS Tech- PRN

Job Summary:

To maintain cleanliness and appearance of hospital by daily cleaning and supplying of patient rooms and areas, departments, lounges, lavatories, bathrooms, offices and other areas assigned in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and in accordance with hospital objectives. Will use cleaning devices including small wringer, dusters, commercial vacuum cleaner, ladders and other necessary tools, products and supplies. Project cleaning of walls, lights, vents and changing of cubicle curtains. Daily vacuuming of carpet in corridors and other areas of unit, as well as spot removal of any stains. Monitoring and maintain chemicals.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using the prescribed method of the 7-step cleaning procedure:

a) High dust and dust all surfaces that collect dust.

b) Disinfect all surfaces with approved hospital disinfectant. Clean all furniture.

c) Clean and polish metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms.

d) Empty waste cans and remove trash.

e) Dry mop floor.

f) Sanitize floor with approved hospital disinfectant.

g) Spot clean walls, windows, and polish metal surfaces.

h) Replenish isolation supplies when needed.

i) Empty needle boxes as appropriate.

j) Perform final inspection.

2. Check Quat for proper efficacy daily using Hydrion Quat test paper.

3. Maintain assigned equipment for cleanliness and have repairs made when necessary.

4. Observe and report to immediate supervisor the need to repair equipment, furniture, chemical dispensers, building and fixtures.

5. Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, doorframes and other high areas using a ladder.

6. Completes assignments in scheduled shift. If tasks are not completed this must be reported to the supervisor before leaving the shift.

7. In case of fire or internal disaster or community disaster, perform duties as assigned.

8. Is familiar with and follows established infection control guidelines and

all established hospital policies and procedures.

9. Communicates with supervisor regarding problems, accidents on job, needs and accomplishments.

10. Assists in cleaning of emergency spills observed or upon request.

11. Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.

12. Maintain logs and records for shift operation.

13. Reporting any deviations from standards to Supervisor.

14. Perform any other tasks, which may be assigned.

15. Follows Hood Memorial Hospital’s Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.

Additional Duties of Discharge Technician:

• Wash walls in Patient Rooms
• Clean discharge rooms on units and in the ED.
• Take down and replace cubicle curtains
• If no discharge rooms are available will be assigned to other areas.
• Project clean elevators, stairwells, public restrooms, waiting areas, water fountains, kick plates and entrances
• May be assigned as trash removal personnel

Additional Duties if Porter:

• Scrub, Restore & Burnish floors on project lists
• Take down and replace cubicle curtains
• Project wall washing and taking down and cleaning of vents
• Project clean elevators, stairwells, public restrooms, waiting areas, water fountains, kick plates and entrances
• Shampoo and/or extract carpet
• Emptying cardboard bailers.
• May be reassigned as trash man or discharge technician if necessary

Must be able to demonstrate before hiring or after brief training the correct use of chemicals, supplies and tools assigned. Must be able to work with others in a team effort. Must be able to work any shift as assigned. Must be able to read and understand instructions and solve problems. Must have sound judgement, reasoning ability, and logical reasoning. Potential for increased stress due to tight deadlines and working overtime, weekends, on-call and holidays. Must be able to maintain good judgement, reasoning skills, and professional manner in stressful situations. Must be neat, have a pleasant manner, be dependable, cooperative, tactful, and show interest in job. Must be able to work any shift as assigned.

FACTORS RELATING TO THE JOB

A. Experience, Knowledge and Skill:

1. Previous Experience Required:

Prefer Housekeeping Experience.

2. Specialized or Technical Education Required:

None Required. High School or Equivalent preferred.

3. Manual or Physical Skill Required:

Must be able to write legibly, have very good vision, be able to measure cleaning chemicals, and able to do manual labor (mopping, sweeping, etc.)
