Forklift Operator

We are seeking high performing and motivated person for a Forklift Operator position at our sawmill located outside of Thomasville, GA. Depending on the department initially assigned to, you may be responsible for loading/unloading lumber in our Drying Department, loading lumber packs onto flat-bed trucks and railcars in our Shipping department or managing the movement of lumber into and out of the Production areas. While training will occur on the day shift, your assigned work area may be on the night shift (6pm – 6am). Please be aware that some departments have a rotating schedule that includes weekends.

Required Experience:

Our forklifts are the size of a tractor; thus, prior but recent experience driving a forklift in a production/industrial environment is required. Preference will be given to those who have recent experience moving/stacking heavy, bulky items (like 16' lumber packs). High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.

Additional requirements include:

• Have a proven job history for staying at most jobs for a long period of time. These people understand that they will never grow and expand their skills unless they stick it out and are in the position to take on additional responsibility and training.
• Know that every person that works here is a very important part of our operation. When someone unexpectedly calls out, comes in late or leaves before the end of the work shift, this causes a hardship to all those that work around you. Thus, we place a high valve on overall work attendance.
• We expect you to THINK. If it looks dangerous, stop and let us talk about it. If you see a better way of doing something, tell us about it.
• Are not afraid of working in rain, cold or hot weather. Production continues even when the weather is not that great. Thus, forklift operators are loading lumber in the rain and cold/hot weather.

• Starting pay rate of $15.97/hr and will progress to $16.74/hour when you have met all the certification standards for your assigned department. Forklift Operators with excellent productivity, quality, attendance and safety performance will have the opportunity to cross-train in other departments and earn a pay rate up to $19.27/hr.
