This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and safe shipment of lumber products while leading a team of shipping personnel in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily shipping operations, including loading, staging, and dispatch of lumber products.
- Coordinate with production, inventory, and transportation teams to ensure on-time deliveries.
- Lead, coach, and develop the shipping team through training, mentoring, and performance management to meet safety, quality, and delivery expectations.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and open communication across all team members.
- Resolve operating, scheduling, and shipping issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Ensure all equipment and work areas meet operational, safety, and cleanliness standards.
- Coordinate with Maintenance on preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain accurate finished lumber inventory, including product tagging, discrepancy resolution, and timely adjustments.
- Coordinate railcar logistics, including loading, invoicing, and communication to minimize delays and costs.
- Maintain organized yard and warehouse areas.
- Coordinate forklift certification, cross-training, and recertification programs across departments.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of shipping experience in manufacturing, preferably in a wood products environment.
- 1-2 years of supervisory or team lead experience.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Willingness to work weekends and extended hours as needed to support mill operations.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
