Definition
Performs a variety of responsible custodial activities to maintain the cleanliness, functioning and appearance of county buildings.
Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties—Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Maintain cleanliness of county buildings including cleaning the restrooms, mopping floors and cleaning offices.
2. Sanitize toilets: wash and disinfect basins and walls; replenish supplies.
3. Dust furniture in offices; vacuum floors; empty trash containers and dispose of trash.
4. Wipe down doors and door handles and walls; clean and disinfect mirrors; baseboards, water fountains, countertops and trash receptacles.
5. Strip and wax floors.
Other important duties and responsibilities:
1. Transport trash to dumpster as needed.
2. Assist in carrying, lifting, or moving items when required.
3. Sweep staircases and wipe rails.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
1. Proper usage of cleansers and supplies.
2. Housekeeping principles.
3. Safe work practices.
Ability to:
1. Sweep and mop floors.
2. Proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
3. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
4. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
5. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
6. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
· Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
· Operating assigned equipment.
· Sweeping and mopping floors.
· Lifting and carrying heavy materials.
· Moving furniture and boxes
· Climbing in and out of the back of a pick-up.
7. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
· Making observations.
· Reading and writing.
· Operating assigned equipment.
· Communicating with others.
Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some general maintenance is desirable.
License or Certificate:
Valid Texas Driver License in good standing is required.
Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions :
Indoor and field environment; traveling from site to site; exposure to noise, dirt and dust; use of various chemicals and cleaning compounds; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials and confined or high workplaces.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; lifting and carrying heavy materials; sweeping and mopping floors; moving furniture and boxes; climbing in and out of back of pickup.
