Job Summary

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is looking for an enthusiastic, well-qualified individual to fill the Senior Data Scientist will provide advanced data science expertise to support Department of Defense (DoD) missions and programs. This role is responsible for developing and applying analytical models, algorithms, and machine learning techniques to solve complex defense-related problems and enable data-driven decision-making.

The Senior Data Scientist will collaborate with program managers, system engineers, analysts, and leadership to ensure that data science solutions align with mission requirements and deliver actionable insights. Responsibilities

Skills / Experience

• 8 years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related technical role, with experience supporting DoD or defense programs
• Strong background in statistical modeling, machine learning, AI techniques, and data visualization
• Experience in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or Java
• Experience with big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, DoD cloud).
• Familiarity with DoD mission data, functional areas, and analytical requirements (experience in functional areas of sustainment, maintenance, and life cycle support preferred)
• Knowledge of data governance, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements in federal/DoD environments
• Ability to lead projects, manage stakeholders, and deliver solutions under tight timelines
• Strong communication skills with experience briefing senior leaders and decision-makers
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced data science solutions, including machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis
• Analyze structured and unstructured datasets to extract insights, identify trends, and support operational and strategic decisions
• Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate data science models into enterprise systems, applications, and mission workflows
• Support the development of data strategies, architectures, and pipelines to enable effective data collection, storage, and analysis
• Provide expert guidance on data quality, governance, and compliance with DoD standards
• Mentor and support junior data scientists and analysts in best practices and methodologies
• Communicate technical findings to senior leadership through clear reports, visualizations, and briefings
• Apply innovative approaches to advance DoD capabilities in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics

Education / Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
• Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field (preferred)
• DoD 8570/8140 certifications (as applicable to data roles)
• Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)
• AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty or Azure Data Scientist Associate
• TensorFlow Developer Certificate or equivalent machine learning certification
• Security or CISSP (for cybersecurity compliance in DoD environments)

Security Clearance

Active TS/SCI Clearance

A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.

Posted Salary Range

USD $150,000.00 - USD $168,000.00 /Yr.
