What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Baker position at Honey Bee Bakery?
We are a proud Jamaican bakery dedicated to preserving and innovating traditional Caribbean baked goods and we’re seeking a talented Head Baker to lead our production team with creativity, discipline and excellence. The Head Baker will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of bakery operations, daily production, staff management, and quality control. The ideal candidate will have extensive baking experience in Caribbean or international kitchens, with knowledge of Jamaican staples such as hard dough bread, coco bread, patties, gizzadas, and spice buns.
- Lead day-to-day baking operations, ensuring consistent product quality and presentation.
- Master recipes for both traditional Jamaican and international baked goods.
- Train and supervise baking staff on techniques, safety, and hygiene protocols.
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and minimize waste.
- Ensure all baked goods are produced on schedule and meet food safety standards.
- Innovate new offerings for seasonal menus, special occasions, and export opportunities.
- Collaborate with management on pricing, sourcing, and cost control.
- 5 years of experience in a professional baking environment; at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven expertise in Caribbean and/or international baking styles.
- Strong understanding of fermentation, dough handling, and pastry techniques.
- Knowledge of commercial baking equipment and production scaling.
- Food Safety Certification preferred.
- Excellent time management and team leadership skills.
- Passion for Caribbean culture and cuisine is a must.
- Experience working in or with Jamaican or Caribbean bakeries abroad.
- Ability to train junior bakers and build a cohesive team environment.
Salary : $28,080 - $36,400
