ABOUT HOMEWARD PIKES PEAK (HPP)

SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for a wide range of accounting, budgeting, and grants tasks, and oversees all financial aspects of company to ensure financial stability, strategic planning, and compliance with grants and regulations. This individual works with the CEO, Board of Directors, and the Board Finance Committee in developing financial reports and system management to support day-to-day operations as well as long term decision making. This position reports to the CEO and supervises one Staff Accountant. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

·       Strategically work with the CEO and leadership teams on all aspects of the financial health of the organization.

·       Communicate with clarity, timeliness and positivity with people of all levels, including internal and external contacts. 

·       Work with the CEO to report as appropriate to Board Treasurer and the Board President as necessary.

·       Develop and maintain a collaborative positive, functional relationship with staff, volunteers, and vendors.

·       Provide direction to the Staff Accountant and oversee that their work is accurate and timely.

 

Financial

·       Manage the general ledger monthly and annual financial close processes, in accordance with GAAP.

·       Maintain the accounting software, Blackbaud – Financial Edge, and chart of accounts.

·       Provide cash management and forecasting.

·       Provide monthly reporting to HPP’s Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

·       Initiate annual budgeting process through analysis prep of regular expenses and cost management strategies, revenue analysis and capital needs assessment.

·       Ensure that annual 1099s are distributed to vendors and IRS with Staff Accountant.

·       Manage reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy of year end balances, including accounts receivable, asset depreciation and conditional grant tracking.

·       Manage and track liability insurance policies and payments throughout the year.

·       Develop and maintain a consistent set of accounting policies and procedures based on best practices.


 

Grants

·       Manage grant billing and forecasting for federal, state and local grants to maximize funding usage within parameters of grants.

·       Provide grant forecasting and reporting for ongoing funding application submission requests.

·       Manage financial grant compliance reporting.

·       Ensure all grant billing is done properly for all payor sources.


Cash Disbursements, Accounts Payable and Expense

·       Ensure invoices and credit cards are timely processed in accordance with HPP policies.

·       Create payments through manual checks or through the payment module from approved check requests.

·       Manage credit card and debit card processing accounts.

·       Ensure all grant payroll and expense documentation is in place for billing.


Cash Receipts and Accounts Receivable

·       Record grants receivable and payments related to the receivables.

·       Ensure all cash receipts are timely and accurately recorded. Review accounts receivable balances for past due accounts.

·       Track donations with restrictions to properly monitor and release funds, as donor stipulations are met.

 

Payroll

·       Oversee the Director of Human Resources and Staff Accountant to complete payroll 26 times a year.

·       Create payroll from approved and submitted timesheets every two weeks.

·       Verify all payroll reports are correct and accurate.

·       Initiate direct deposit.

·       Remit funding for all benefits and taxes on timely basis.

 

Audit

·       Engage and manage external agencies and grant audits (annually, contractual).

·       Work with external auditors to manage the year end audit; ensure all audit request are timely addressed; implement audit recommendations.

·       Report to the Board of Directors on audit activities.

·       Work with Audit firm to prepare the 990 forms.


HOMEWARD PIKES PEAK TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Attend and participate in staff, Leadership, Finance Committee, and Board of Director meetings.

·       Attend and/or participate or interact with donors or fundraising as requested.

·       Produce documentation timely as requested for audits and audit resolutions.

·       Maintain office environment to professional standards.

·       Consistently display, adhere to, and promote the company’s values.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

·       Demonstrated financial experience with preference in non-profits.

·       Experience with HUD, Medicaid, office of behavioral health funding, and grant compliance.

·       Demonstrated experience and knowledge of GAAP.

·       Demonstrated experience with accurate and timely data entry.

·       Demonstrated experience with Blackbaud, including preparing and running analysis and reports. 

·       Strong proficiency with MS Word, Excel, databases and accounting software.

·       Ability to proactively determine priorities and meet deadlines.

·       Professional written and verbal communication skills, detail oriented and organized.

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality.

·       Collaborative team player with ability to lead directly and indirectly.

·       Self-starter and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

·       Experience managing accounting staff.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.  

·       7 years of experience in finance management and oversight, with an emphasis in non-profits. 

·       3 years of experience with federal funding/grant compliance.

·       Experience and knowledge of GAAP.

·       3 years of experience leading and managing accounting staff.

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, financial databases, and accounting software, specifically Blackbaud.

·       Strong leadership experience with effective strategic planning.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field of study.

·       Experience with Paylocity or other similar platform for Payroll processing. 

·       Experience working with government contracts and fee for service contracts.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The compensation for this position will be between $90-105,000 based upon experience and qualifications. Homeward Pikes Peak offers the following benefits for those eligible:

·       Medical, Dental & Vision – employer pays 55% of premium

·       Life, accidental death & dismemberment, & short term disability insurance – employer pays 100%

·       401k – employer match is 2%

·       18 days of vacation for years 0-5 accruing annually

·       6 days of paid sick leave accruing annually

·       6 paid holidays 4 floating holidays

Salary : $90,000 - $105,000
