What are the responsibilities and job description for the Handyman position at Homestead Solutions?
Technician — Residential Repair & Home Improvement
You know that feeling when you fix something, step back, and think, “Yep. That looks good”?
We do too.
Homestead Solutions is looking for a skilled, dependable Technician who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, helping people, and leaving a home better than they found it.
This isn’t a job where you’ll stand in the same place doing the same thing every day. One day you might repair drywall and hang a television. The next, you could install a vanity, replace a faucet, fix a stubborn door, tackle some trim work, or solve one of those mysterious homeowner problems that starts with, “So...this has been doing something weird.”
If you take pride in your work, know your way around a toolbox, and believe the details matter, we’d like to meet you.
What You’ll Do
As a Homestead Solutions Technician, you’ll handle a variety of residential repair, maintenance, installation, and improvement projects.
Your days may include:
- Drywall repair and finishing
- Interior and exterior painting
- Door and hardware repairs
- Trim, baseboard, and molding work
- Faucet, toilet, and fixture replacement
- Vanity installation
- Shelving and blind installation
- TV, artwork, and wall-mounted accessory installation
- Flooring repairs
- Caulking, sealing, and weatherproofing
- Furniture assembly
- General carpentry
- Routine home maintenance
- Troubleshooting the inevitable “What on earth happened here?”
You’ll review the project, assess the situation, determine the right approach, and complete work within your skill set safely and professionally.
And when something requires a licensed trade, permit, specialized expertise, or simply falls outside your wheelhouse? You’ll know when to stop and call in the right resources. Good judgment is just as important to us as technical skill.
What Makes Someone Great at This Job?
You don’t have to know how to do absolutely everything.
You do need to know how to do quality work, solve problems, communicate well, and recognize when you need help.
Our strongest Technicians:
- Take pride in craftsmanship.
- Notice the details other people miss.
- Show up prepared and ready to work.
- Treat a customer’s home like it matters—because it does.
- Can troubleshoot instead of immediately reaching for the panic button.
- Keep customers informed without overwhelming them with contractor-speak.
- Clean up after themselves.
- Own mistakes and make them right.
- Document their work accurately.
- Help teammates get better.
- Understand that “good enough” usually isn’t.
Most importantly, they represent what Homestead Solutions is built on:
Character. Craftsmanship. Trust.
You Might Be Our Person If...
You have hands-on experience with residential repairs and maintenance and can independently handle routine service calls.
You’re comfortable using common hand and power tools, understand construction materials and repair methods, can read measurements and installation instructions, and know how to think through a problem before tearing something apart.
You should also have:
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Good organizational and time-management habits
- A commitment to working safely
- Respect for customers, their homes, and their belongings
- A valid driver’s license and driving record that meets Company insurance requirements
- The ability to complete applicable pre-employment screening
- Authorization to work in the United States
A Few Things About the Work
This is an active, hands-on field position. You’ll regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, use hand and power tools, and work both indoors and outdoors.
You’ll need to be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance or equipment used for heavier items, and you’ll drive between customer locations throughout the workday.
In other words: if your dream job involves sitting behind a desk for eight hours, this probably isn’t it.
About the Tools
We expect our Technicians to come equipped with the standard hand tools identified for their position.
We provide ladders, specialty equipment, required PPE, and other equipment or tools that Company policy or applicable law requires us to provide.
Want to Grow? Good.
We want people who are interested in getting better at what they do.
Technicians who consistently demonstrate strong craftsmanship, advanced troubleshooting skills, excellent customer service, sound judgment, leadership, and low callback/rework rates may have the opportunity to advance to Senior Technician.
We’re especially interested in people who eventually want to help teach, coach, and develop other members of the team.
Why Homestead Solutions?
Because home repair is about more than fixing things.
Customers are inviting us into their homes and trusting us with spaces that matter to them. We take that seriously.
We want our team to be known not only for the quality of the finished project, but for how customers felt while we were there.
If you believe great work means doing what you said you would do, doing it well, and treating people right along the way, you’ll fit in here.
Ready to Build Something With Us?
If you’re a skilled problem-solver who takes pride in your work and wants to be part of a company built around Character, Craftsmanship, and Trust, we’d love to hear from you.
