Landscape Designer (3–5 Years Experience) San Francisco Bay Area | Independent Contractor
Homestead Design Collective is seeking a creative, motivated Landscape Designer to join our growing team in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of professional experience and a strong interest in hands-on involvement throughout the entire design process—from early concept development to final design presentation. This is an independent contractor position with opportunity for growth.
About the Role The Landscape Designer will collaborate closely with the Owner and Lead Designer on residential projects, contributing creatively and technically at every stage of design. This position can work remotely, in addition to meeting at our East Bay office and client job sites throughout the SF Bay Area.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Creative, curious, and imaginative approach to landscape design
- Strong desire to work collaboratively within a design team, under the guidance of the Owner and Lead Designer
- Experience or interest in residential landscape projects with a focus on custom design, edible landscapes, and California native plantings
- Knowledge of, and interest in, sustainable practices, materials, and emerging technologies
- Proficiency in CAD drafting, conceptual sketching, and formal hand drawing
- Working experience with Vectorworks, SketchUp, and Lumion
- Participation in concept presentations, with careful note-taking for follow-up and revisions
- Ability to revise and finalize landscape plans with polished graphics and clear, concise annotations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with strong attention to detail and professionalism
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Graduate of an accredited landscape architecture or landscape design program
