Job Summary
Homestead Building Supplies is looking for a detail-oriented Drafter to join our team. This role focuses on creating accurate, professional residential and light commercial drawings using Chief Architect. The ideal candidate understands how good plans set the tone for a successful build and is motivated by creating drawings that help our customers, contractors and sales team move projects forward. Experience with Chief Architect is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Create clear, accurate construction drawings and floor plans using Chief Architect.
- Work closely with contractors, builders, and homeowners to understand project needs and design expectations.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and customer specifications to produce draft layouts and finalized plans.
- Provide material lists or basic takeoff support for internal sales/estimating team when needed.
- Assist sales and estimating staff by updating or revising drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain organized drawing files and ensure revisions are properly tracked.
- Stay informed about industry trends, building materials, and evolving residential design standards.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors and team members to ensure a smooth design and build process.
Qualifications
- High School Education or equivalent.
- Experience with Chief Architect, AutoCAD, or similar drafting software preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, building plans, and architectural details.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in both drawings and documentation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
