Director of Enterprise Architecture

HomeServe
Norwalk, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 6/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/3/2026

Position Overview:

The Director of Enterprise Architecture (EA) partners with the Senior Director to advance and operate the EA function as a strategic enabler of business outcomes (growth, cost optimization, risk mitigation). This role helps maintaining oversight of the EA portfolio, driving execution, and representing the function in executive forums and decision bodies when required. The Director helps shape the EA operating model, develops the talent bench of architects, and ensures the function provides clear, consumable guidance that connects technology investments to measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

1) Support & Stand‑In Leadership

  • EA takes a holistic and strategic view and will help and coordinate cross functionally across the applications, infrastructure and security teams.
  • Will be expected to lead governance forums, present in executive meetings, and make context‑aware decisions aligned to enterprise priorities.
  • Maintain an integrated view of EA services, deliverables, and dependencies to provide timely guidance, unblock execution, and sustain momentum.
  • Communicate EA’s value proposition and progress to business and IT stakeholders, reinforcing buy‑in and accountability.

2) Evolve EA Charter, Services & Value Proposition

  • Co‑author and adapt the EA charter, service portfolio, and engagement model to reflect changing business strategies and stakeholder needs.
  • Position EA as a strategic partner that informs digital and technology strategy and guides modernization and transformation decisions.

3) Team Development & Enablement

  • Build and manage a collaborative bench of enterprise, business, and IT architects; mentor in storytelling, design thinking, and consultative influence.
  • Plan resources, develop role paths/competencies, and cultivate a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

4) Operating Model & Governance

  • Design and adapt the EA operating model (structure, decision rights, governance) to support agility and democratized decision making.
  • Implement adaptive governance—guardrails, standards, platforms, and embedded controls—to empower delivery teams while maintaining strategic alignment.
  • Define and track EA ODMs aligned to enterprise/CIO metrics; integrate EA processes with business and IT operations.

5) Trendspotting, Scenario Planning & Risk

  • Assess TPESTRE trends (technological, political, economic, social/cultural, trust/ethics, regulatory/legal, environmental) and translate implications for strategy and architecture.
  • Facilitate scenario planning, identify emerging threats/opportunities (including non‑traditional competitors), and anchor innovation in business/operating model realities.

6) Technology Modernization & Portfolio Rationalization

  • Lead current‑state analyses and future‑state roadmaps; identify gaps and recommend investments that balance speed, cost, and risk.
  • Reduce technical debt using pragmatic models (e.g., PAID/TIME) and ensure modernization plans fit project‑ and product‑delivery contexts.
  • Articulate cost/benefit profiles to business and IT stakeholders to enable informed investment decisions.

7) Enable Solution Delivery & Reuse

  • Establish principles, patterns, standards, and minimum‑viable architectures that reflect business strategy and corporate governance.
  • Partner with product management, infrastructure, data & analytics, and PMO leaders to align roadmaps and encourage reuse of shared platforms and capabilities.
  • Provide consumable reference architectures that enable safe, rapid experimentation with emerging technologies.

8) Connect Strategy to Execution

  • Facilitate business/IT alignment through capability and value‑stream mapping; orchestrate cross‑functional delivery of future‑state architectures.
  • Produce diagnostic, intuitive, and timely business‑architecture guidance that informs investment choices and operating‑model changes (including generative AI considerations).

9) Internal Consultancy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Operate EA as an internal consultancy—tailoring services to stakeholder needs and leading outcome‑driven conversations with product and line leaders.
  • Build and lead an architect “guild” and work through strategic committees/boards to resolve cross‑product conflicts in favor of enterprise outcomes.
