AFTERSCHOOL & RECREATION COORDINATOR 

 

 

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Afterschool & Recreation Coordinator to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Afterschool & Recreation Coordinator for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan, NY. The Afterschool & Recreation Coordinator will support the administrative operations of the Afterschool, Recreation, and Summer Camp programs. They will maintain strong relationships by addressing concerns, resolving issues, and clearly communicating policies. The coordinator will also assist the Director in ensuring efficient program operations, quality assurance, and reporting. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS: 

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Be an active leader in developing a positive staff, participant culture and curriculum.
  • Manage staff schedules and the creation of staff meeting agendas.
  • Review and manage student attendance trends and provide needed interventions such as student conversations, parent contact and other progressive methods.
  • Support the evaluation of staff needs for professional development as well as coordinate staff training in accordance with Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and Department of Health (DOH) requirements.
  • Adhere to all OCFS and DOH standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate required pre-program and new hire training.
  • Report and follow-up on all incidents.
  • Complete monthly reports outlining program successes and challenges.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Coordinate with the HR team members to ensure personnel files are complete.
  • Support internal and external agency and fiscal audits process by gathering records and documents as requested.
  • Support with the filing of required permits and licenses.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, parents, guardians, and participants through regular communication and as needed.
  • Help plan, promote, and report on special events (culminating events, art shows etc.).
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. 

 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in Youth Services.
  • Two years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Excellent office management and computer literacy skills (including MS Office applications and internet research).
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, networking, and presentation skills. 
  • Demonstrates proactive approaches to problem-solving, highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently, proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion. 
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills highly preferred.
