Position Overview
Homer Smith Docks and Marina is seeking a hardworking, versatile, and mechanically-inclined individual to join our team as a Marina Maintenance & Operations Specialist. This role is a hybrid position combining grounds management, property maintenance, specialized boat lift upkeep, and hands-on dock hand duties.
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining a pristine and safe property, and possesses the mechanical aptitude required to inspect and service waterfront infrastructure. You will be a key face of the marina, interacting daily with boaters while ensuring our facilities remain in top-tier condition.
Key Responsibilities
Facility & Boat Lift Maintenance
- Boat Lift Upkeep: Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, greasing, cable adjustments, and preventative maintenance on motorized boat lifts to ensure safe and flawless operation.
- General Property Maintenance: Handle minor electrical, structural, and plumbing repairs around the docks, marina office, and amenities.
- Safety Inspections: Regularly walk the docks, ramps, and seawalls to identify and fix structural hazards, loose boards, or hardware issues.
Grounds Management
- Property Upkeep: Serve as the primary grounds manager, overseeing the daily cleanliness, landscaping touch-ups, and overall visual appeal of the marina property.
- Weather Readiness: Assist with securing infrastructure ahead of storms and clearing walkways or docks after high winds or tidal shifts.
Dock Hand & Guest Services
- Vessel Assistance: Catch lines, tie up vessels securely using proper knots, and assist local and transient boaters with safely docking and departing.
- Fuel Dock Operations: Assist boaters with fueling procedures, pump-out stations, and shore power connections.
- Customer Service: Welcome guests with a friendly attitude, answer basic questions about the marina, and uphold our reputation for local hospitality.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Mechanical Experience: Prior experience in general maintenance, construction, landscaping, or mechanical repairs is required. Specific experience with boat lifts, hoists, or marine infrastructure is highly preferred.
- Boating Familiarity: Comfortable working on and around water. Basic knowledge of boating, line handling, and marine knots is a major asset.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to spend full shifts on your feet, walk long docks, swim if necessary, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly in varying weather conditions (heat, wind, rain).
- Professionalism: Punctual, reliable, and able to represent a family-owned business proudly to high-end clientele and members of the community.
- Schedule Flexibility: Must be willing to work weekends and occasional holidays, as marina activity peaks during these times.
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
