What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roofing Reporter position at Homepros?
Homepros is an early-stage digital media company covering the multi-billion-dollar U.S. HVAC and plumbing industries, with a focus on the residential and light commercial segments. We publish business news, analysis, and commentary via email newsletters, four days a week, to an audience of contracting business owners, executives, and managers.
While the home service industries, including those beyond HVAC and plumbing — roofing, pest control, garage doors, etc. — are massive and durable, they’re also dynamic, facing the impact of technology, including artificial intelligence, government regulation, and consolidation, driving the need for operators to stay up to speed with hyper-relevant, efficient news coverage.
As part of our company’s expansion — following triple-digit year-over-year growth in both our audience and revenue in 2025 — we’re launching a new publication to cover the roofing industry, and we’re seeking an entrepreneurial journalist to help build and lead the vertical. No prior roofing experience is required; we’re looking for a strong reporter who can quickly learn the industry, and we’ll help you get up to speed.
In this role, you will:
- Identify and write news stories
- Conduct research and produce in-depth, original stories and analysis
- Author and publish a 3x/week email newsletter
- Aggregate relevant stories from around the web to include in other sections of our newsletter
- Develop and engage a source network of industry professionals to fuel news coverage
- Travel to industry events and chase down scoops to break stories before other outlets
- Contribute to the editorial strategy of the publication
- Help grow and engage our community of readers
Note: While roofing will be your primary coverage area, you’ll occasionally assist with and contribute to our HVAC and plumbing publications as needed.
We're looking for someone who:
- Wants to be a part of and play a key role in growing an early-stage startup
- Thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment and can be flexible with hours when news breaks or opportunities arise
- Can write clean, concise, accurate copy on a deadline, and has excellent news judgment and a keen eye for detail
- Has at least two years of reporting experience, ideally in business news
- Is based in the Charlotte, NC, area (strongly preferred)
- Most importantly, wants to work hard and win
Compensation:
- Salary: $65,000 /-
- Stock options
