Role Description The Caregiver is a full-time, on-site role based in Des Moines, IA, providing direct support to seniors in their homes and in senior care settings as needed. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility, as well as providing medication reminders in line with care plans. The Caregiver helps with meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and feeding assistance to support clients’ nutrition and wellness. The role involves offering transportation to appointments and activities, engaging clients through conversation and companionship, and supporting those with memory care needs in a calm, structured manner. The Caregiver also collaborates with families and other care providers, contributes to coordination of care, and offers comfort and support for clients receiving hospice or transitional care.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and safe mobility support.
- Ability to provide reliable medication reminders, follow care plans, and observe and report changes in clients’ health or behavior.
- Experience with meal planning, basic cooking, grocery shopping, and supporting clients’ nutritional needs.
- Competence in safe client transportation, including assisting with transfers, escorting to appointments, and supporting community outings.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and companionship skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with seniors and families.
- Comfort working with clients living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, including patience, empathy, and use of appropriate memory care techniques.
- Organizational skills for documenting care activities, coordinating with care teams, and following schedules and procedures.
- Prior caregiving, home care, CNA, or related experience is preferred; relevant training or certification in senior care is a plus.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Des Moines, IA, including possible evenings or weekends as needed.
- Dependable transportation, ability to meet background check requirements, and a commitment to person-centered, non-discriminatory care.
