This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment across all areas of the Home Sweet Home Ministries (HSHM) campus. Duties include performing a full range of custodial tasks such as cleaning and sanitizing facilities - including high-use areas such as restrooms, showers, and locker rooms - and maintaining indoor and outdoor areas, restocking supplies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The role also involves monitoring building conditions, proactively communicating facility needs or safety concerns to supervisors, and maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when working in both public and residential spaces. Weekend hours are required for this position.
Required schedule for this part-time position:
Sunday-Thursday 9:00am-2:00pm
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clean and sanitize all assigned areas of the HSHM campus, including restrooms, showers, locker rooms, offices, common areas, residential spaces, and basements.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and stairwells; shampoo carpets as needed.
Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, showers, lockers, and fixtures to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for residents, guests, and staff.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replacing liners in accordance with facility standards.
Clean and disinfect windows, mirrors, and other surfaces throughout the facility.
Maintain outdoor areas by sweeping debris, removing trash, performing light landscaping, and clearing walkways as necessary.
Restock cleaning and hygiene supplies in restrooms, locker rooms, kitchens, and other designated areas; maintain organized janitor closets and fully stocked supply caddies for work service participants, ensuring appropriate levels of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Follow all OSHA safety standards and ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are current, accessible, and properly stored.
Proactively communicate custodial needs, supply shortages, or facility concerns to the supervisor, providing recommendations or plans for resolution.
Regularly update the status of assigned tasks and promptly report any maintenance or safety issues.
Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality at all times, particularly when working in residential or sensitive areas.
Carry and respond to agency-provided radio at all times while on duty.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of custodial experience.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic data entry skills.
Self-motivated, able to organize day’s work and able to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a high stress environment.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Actively involved in the Christian faith.
