GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) provides direct clinical care services to
clients in need of alcohol and substance abuse counseling
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Conduct client screening
- Complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments
- Engage clients in counseling using motivational interviewing techniques, to facilitate harm reduction,
readiness for behavior change and recovery as well as relapse prevention - Develop and run substance abuse counseling groups
- Develop relationships with a wide range of community substance abuse treatment providers and
programs, including residential treatment programs as referral resources - Refer clients to outside agencies and treatment programs, when indicated, and facilitate client
engagement in treatment programs as referral resources - Work with clients to integrate substance abuse treatment as they transition to housing in the
community - Document all clinical work (individual and/or group) into DHS computerized case management system
(CARES) in a timely manner or as requested - In the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduled
- Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based upon assessment of company needs
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must have CASAC certification
- Must be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
- Must have experience and comfortability with using motivational interviewing techniques
- Previous work experience with the homeless population and DHS Cares is preferred
